Anyone been to Ronnie Scott's since its refurbishment? I understand it's very pricey these days. It's been years since I was there: I remember it as dark, smokey, cheap, and sounded great. Saw many a jazzbo type there.
I was lucky enough to go to four of the six shows Jeff did at Ronnie Scotts and I have to say I was very impressed with the venue's refurbishment. The club was starting to get pretty seedy in my opinion, and was in need of a face lift. I know some people miss the old place, but the refurb has not ruined the atmosphere at all. Yes, it is more expensive, as is the food, but the quality is far superior. The famous stage has not moved. And lets not forget that Jimi Hendrix made his last public appearance here with Eric Burdon and War, not to mention all the jazz greats that also graced that stage. A lot of music history!
As GoogaMooga says, it was pretty amazing that Jeff played there. i know Jeff loves the venue as well as Soho, Bar Italia being one of his favourite haunts.
Its interesting that none of the special guests he invited (Josh Stone - she fluffed her lines, The Big Town Playboys - always excellent, Eric Clapton - say no more, Imogen Heap - amazing vocals and gorgeous to boot!) are on the cd. Maybe they will be on the dvd?
