Arguably, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees are the most
popular/despised teams in their respective sports. They both have
huge nationwide followings. One calls themselves "America's Team"
and the other doesn't. It just hit me why the Yankees have never called
themselves "America's Team". It's not that they don't try to cultivate
a fanbase outside New York. It's not that they are more modest than
the Cowboys. It's just that the most important thing to the Yankees
aside from winning the World Series is being the #1 team in New York,
because like all true New Yorkers, they believe the rest of the country
doesn't exist.

Yankee fans are arrogant. We don't care if we are hated and despised. We know we are better than you. We don't care that we spend the most money-we'll waive it in your faces. We don't want to be America's team, we just want to win. When Kansas CIty complains that they don't have enough money, we say "The problem is you don't have a real city." I used to say, we don't have rivalries with Boston or the Mets, they have envy of us, but we don't care about them.

We draw the most on the road, whether through fans or haters.

Yeah right, they can't even fill their ballpark in the playoffs. Ho ho. 1996, a sweet memory of the crushing of the Braves beneath our boots. Plus, they are soooo dull. The only thing that gives them any popularity nationally is that the South needs more teams, and they get the TBS bonus since it is national.

All the kids, the rappers, the movie stars, most of them wear Yankee symbols these days. Still, don't care, it's all about the winning, and the love OR hate we inspire.

Oh, so that's the test of America's team? Okay, then I guess the Diamondbacks were America's Team when they ripped out your heart and stomped on while it was still beating.

Wearing Yankee shirts in Florida is great-everyone either is a former New Yorker who loves them, or is a native who hates them-and tells you. But I always get a reaction. Wear a Braves shirt up here. No one cares. Though at the game, they might spill beer on you.

There's no question the Yankees are the greatest team in the history of baseball. We just hate you.

The Red Sox are smugly silent ever since they caused the greatest debacle in the history of the Yankees. The Sox are my AL team.

I predict the Yankees will never again win the World Series. They will continue to have one of the best rosters in all of baseball, but will continue to have no heart, to play in a way that allows us to teach our kids how not to be.

The Red Sox got their win-and 85 year old men dropped dead across the country. But just like the Dogers got one win, but we clobbered them in all the others, the Red Sox continue to tbe clobbered team. They'll continue to chant Yankees Suck at parades for the Patriots when they win Super Bowls. Auch a sad twisted creature they are. Maybe this will be the therapy they need.

Part of Atlanta's problem is that they have been a victim of their own success---their fans have become very spoiled. Look at the attendance of the Yankees from 1947 to 1964, when they failed to win the American League pennant only THREE times, and you find attendance steadily declining. The same thing is happening with the Braves.

The main part of the problem is that in Atlanta, as in much of the South, football and not baseball is king. (Should I mention that when the Washington Senators moved to Dallas/Fort Worth to become the Texas Rangers, they became the first MLB team ever to draw FEWER fans in their inaugural season than they did in their funeral season the year before?) The South does not need more baseball teams. Looking at Linda's home state, you could probably take away both the Marlins and Devil Rays and not much people will notice.

That being said, 14 straight years of winning the NL East is remarkable. I don't think the Yankees' current streak will last that long before it is snapped.

That is true, but then you had 3 ball teams, and even after the other two moved, their remained deep divisions between national league fans and american league fans at that time. Today, people seem to want a winner more. So attendance keeps satying strong or going up
