as part of their ongoing effort to strip my wife and i of all our money, ( and it's working!) fallsview casino in niagara falls gave us free tix to a pat benetar show this past thursday night. (free jay leno tix this thursday, no food this friday!)

all i can say is, if pat benetar is coming near you, and you have thought about going, think again. my advice if you can't go free, don't go.

the entire show, w/2 encores was less than 90 minutes. she started at about 8:35 and was done about 9:50.

a three piece backing band, her husband neil giraldo, a bass player, a drummer and a lot, (a lot!) of tape effects.

her voice was OK, started getting a little rough after the third song, but they slowed it down and she recovered.

they did play all her hits that she and neil wrote, (no "i need a lover" or "you better run").

i should note that, that of that 75 minutes they were on stage there was also a drum solo and a bass guitar solo.

and the guitar solo's ( i should say solo because every single solo giraldo played sounded EXACTLY like the one before it) took up another 20 - 30 minutes. giraldo, for as long as he has been playing, just isn't very good. he only used 2 electric guitars (he did play an acoustic on one song) and they were exactly the same except for the color. every song was in the same key and every solo used the same sound, no different effects or distortions. and giraldo was constantly throwing guitar picks into the audience all night, he had a whole box of them!

a very disappointing show i must say, although my wife did get a security guy to give her a set list after the show. (she got a pick too!)

Thaks for the head's up. She's playing at a fair in Joliet IL tonight, and a bunch of us were going to go, until we heard last night ehy were charging $30!! (For a Taste show?!?). I refuse to pay that kind of money for a carni-show. This simply seals it! Thanks again!

She's playing at a fair? I've seen some okay concerts at fairs and theme parks, but I can't help but think of that scene in Spinal Tap.

PUPPET SHOW!

That's if you can get in. My wife and I went to see Hootie & The Blowfish there a few years ago, and got there at around 4PM, the show was at 8PM.
When we arrived they had already stopped letting any more ppl onto the grounds, and there probably around 300 ppl waiting to get in! They said that there was mo guarantee that anyone else would get in for the rest of the night, and they were only allowing ppl in as others left. Meanwhile schoolbuses full of ppl were still being delivered at the gates from the various parking facilities around town. The fest has gotten way too big for the small patch of land that they have it on. Besides the ribfest, there's nothing else to do there. No rides, no crafts....nothing. Not to mention no shade to speak of if you're sitting in the hot sun all day waiting for the show. Someone I worked with went two years ago, to see The Beach Boys there, and she experienced the same thing as I did. She couldnt get in, even though she got there around noon!
The first time I went there was to see Foreigner in 2002. I had no problem getting in then, cause the fest crowd hadnt yet reached the epic porportion that it has now. I wont even attempt to go there ever again...
