What's Warren Ellis' best current book?

Black Summer for me...great action and a cool political spin on super heroes.

I voted for Black Summer... but Nextwave was all kinds of fun.

Fell needs to come out more often, but it's my all-time favorite Ellis book, finally overtaking Transmetropolitan.

I picked Fell because of the art. Doktor Sleepless is very good, though. I think Ellis is too cynical for a bright n' shiny genre like super-heroes, so I didn't bother with the other two.

Wow... I've only read the first couple, but I have a bunch more waiting at home and on mail-order. Looks like I'm in for a treat.

You might want to check out Black Summer and, to a lesser extent, Thunderbolts. Neither is really Ellis attempting to do actual superheroes.

Doesn't he write Newuniversal, and what happened to that?

Or was that someone else?

Newuniversal is on a scheduled hiatus, I believe. And yeah, that's Ellis.

He's also got Desolation Jones going, which I forgot about. I know that book was having artist problems, and JH Williams was replaced, but I'm not sure where things are with the new artist.

I thought so. I would have checked myself, but I'm here in this chair.

I thought it was pretty good. Maybe I would like some of this other stuff.

Check out Planetary and Stormwatch/The Authority. If you liked Newuniversal, you should enjoy those.

Planetary vol. 1

Stormwatch (Ellis' first arc - I'd recommend starting here, but you could skip to the first Authority trade and be fine)

The Authority vol. 1

Or for something short and similar, his Extremis arc on Iron Man.

Newuniversal and Desolation Jones are on hiatus so they can get a bunch of issues in the can with new artists (both titles had artist problems/switches)...brilliant books..i highly recommend both of them.

I just finished the first trade of Planetary. Loved it. See AmazWAN thread where I ordered the next two trades.

I'm in for all of this one (and the forlorn looking to the future for a finish).

And I sense this will lead to me reading The Authority, perhaps.

The only Ellis works I've read have been Global Frequency and the "Extremis" story in Iron Man.
