During my teen years I had Wild Eyed Southern Boys, Special Forces and Tour de Force. I loved Wild Eyed, thought Special Forces was pretty good but not great and didn't like Tour de Force at all. They seemed to find the absolute perfect mix of southern rock and classic rock when they were at their peak. It seemed like they reached a point where it drifted too much towards pop.
Despite not liking Tour de Force, they played the city where I grew up in on that tour, and I went as having been a fan of the previous records. This was the days when artists toured to promote the new record, so generally if it was a 10 song album, you were guaranteed to get a minimum of 6 songs from that new record. For that show (and I'm assuming the rest of that leg of the tour), they played exactly 1 song from Tour de Force, the first single - If I'd Been the One. I've never heard any info about it, but that sure left me with the impression that they didn't like that album either, and maybe got some directives from the record label about what they were going to sound like.
I see that they have Jim Peterik back as a co-writer, and a track listing I saw looks like he had a hand in most of the songs. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if this was a pretty good album.
