Description
50 years together. 20 million records sold. More than 15 albums of guitar-driven southern rock stacked high with hits like "Hold On Loosely," "Caught Up In You," "If I'd Been the One," "Back Where You Belong," and "Second Chance." 38 Special is proof that there's strength in numbers. Milestone marks 38 Special's first studio record in more than 20 years, and it showcases the group's platinum-selling blend of muscle and melody, snarling guitars, anthemic hooks, and the desire to break new ground. There are co-writes with Jim Peterik (Survivor) and Randy Bachman (Bachman-Turner Overdrive, The Guess Who), duets with vocalist Pat Monahan (Train), and performances from a group of resilient road warriors who still play 100 shows annually. Written between tour dates and recorded during a series of live-in-the-studio performances, Milestone is a snapshot of a band in motion, flying the flag for an enduring form of classic rock & roll that never dies.

2. Slightly Controversial featuring Train
3. All I Haven't Said

Heard this earlier today and it’s a really good song.

Much more modern Country than Southern Rock, but I think it’s beautifully produced, sung and played.

They’re coming to Philly this fall, and I was reluctant because only Barnes is left from the classic lineup, but these guys do sound good.

During my teen years I had Wild Eyed Southern Boys, Special Forces and Tour de Force. I loved Wild Eyed, thought Special Forces was pretty good but not great and didn't like Tour de Force at all. They seemed to find the absolute perfect mix of southern rock and classic rock when they were at their peak. It seemed like they reached a point where it drifted too much towards pop.

Despite not liking Tour de Force, they played the city where I grew up in on that tour, and I went as having been a fan of the previous records. This was the days when artists toured to promote the new record, so generally if it was a 10 song album, you were guaranteed to get a minimum of 6 songs from that new record. For that show (and I'm assuming the rest of that leg of the tour), they played exactly 1 song from Tour de Force, the first single - If I'd Been the One. I've never heard any info about it, but that sure left me with the impression that they didn't like that album either, and maybe got some directives from the record label about what they were going to sound like.

I see that they have Jim Peterik back as a co-writer, and a track listing I saw looks like he had a hand in most of the songs. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if this was a pretty good album.

The American pre-order price has dropped by $3, and is now $13.99:
