Description
Tattoo You celebrates 40 years with the release of a brand new deluxe remastered edition of the chart topping, multiplatinum album. The Super Deluxe 4CD Boxset includes the newly remastered version of Tattoo You, Lost & Found, Still Life: Wembley Stadium 1982 plus a bonus picture disc pressing of Tattoo You and a 124 Page Book featuring over 200 rare photos from recording sessions & world tour + interviews with producer Chris Kimsey & photographer Hubert Kretzscmar. The package includes a special lenticular sleeve.

The Lost & Found disc contains no fewer than nine previously unreleased songs from the period of the album’s original release, newly completed and enhanced with additional vocals and guitar by the band. Among these, “Living In The Heart Of Love” is a quintessential Stones rock workout with all of the group on top form, complete with urgent guitar licks and fine piano detail.

Other highlights of Lost & Found include a killer version of “Shame, Shame, Shame,” first recorded in 1963 by one of the band’s blues heroes, Jimmy Reed; their reading of Dobie Gray’s soul gem “Drift Away;” and a fascinating reggae-tinged version of “Start Me Up.”
Still Life: Wembley Stadium 1982 is an unmissable memento of the band’s London show in June of that year on the Tattoo You tour. The mighty 26-track set is packed with Stones mega-hits, including an opening “Under My Thumb” and all-time greats such as “Let’s Spend The Night Together,” “Honky Tonk Women” and “Brown Sugar.” The Wembley show has covers of the Temptations’ “Just My Imagination,” Eddie Cochran’s “Twenty Flight Rock,” the Miracles’ “Going To A Go Go” and early rock ‘n’ roller the Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace.” It also features early live workouts for tracks from the then-new Tattoo You such as “Start Me Up,” “Neighbours," “Little T&A” and “Hang Fire.”

From a new interview with Ronnie Wood in the Sunday Times in the UK:

“Me and Mick have done nine new tracks for the [40th anniversary] re-release of [the Rolling Stones album] Tattoo You. And me, Rod and Kenney [the only surviving original members of Wood’s pre-Rolling Stones band the Faces] have been recording some new Faces music.”

This is my favorite Stones album, so this is exciting news.

Curious what extra songs get on there and glad to see they’re doing newly finished songs too.

And how about that Faces news?

This is interesting. A great collection of outtakes (which does make me wonder what are the 9 "new" tracks? Outtakes of Outtakes spruced up, or "new" new songs (Which would be a bit of a cheat to be in a deluxe vs a new album proper.)?). New Faces music as well? Very cool.

Probably just finishing up some vault tracks. I believe they did that for the Sticky Fingers box set, bringing back Mick Taylor to overdub some guitar parts.

Everytime I hear the announcement of a new Stones deluxe, I can't help but think of Our Jimbo.

Yep, I figure the same, just a little funny as Tattoo You basically was a bunch of outtakes to begin with, where Sticky Fingers etc were vault tracks generally from the recording sessions. In any case, it should be a good one!

Well, Tattoo You had new songs as well as newly finished songs from the vault.

It was a studio album, not a compilation album despite digging in the vaults.

Bands often revisit songs from previous albums that didn’t make the cut.

I’d be very curious as well what these other songs are and when they were written.

I’m in no matter what.

I've always understood that it was a collection of previously recorded songs, spruced up with fresh overdubs.

What songs were newly written and/or recorded for this?

There were quite a few that only had scraps of backing tracks and many of the melodies and lyrics were all newly written by Mick.

I know “Heaven” was one of those and I think maybe “No Use in Crying.”

Even those had been semi-started on during Emotional Rescue, but they weren’t even songs yet; just sketches.

I think the only song with no new parts to it was “Tops.”

These are the two greatest single bits of info I have heard in a long time. Thanks, Pete.

There was a leaked 2 CD set containing many outtakes from the era this album was sourced from and some of the songs are brilliant. Surprisingly there still was several great unreleased songs from Goats Head Soup that didn't end up on the deluxe edition last year.

When I feel at my worst like I do now, news like this somehow keeps me going.

I’m wondering if it will be a new Faces album or some new tracks on a compilation.

They should’ve done this when Ian was still alive, but it has some potential.

As for Tattoo You, it’s one of my favorite albums of all-time and I don’t care how it was put together!

I was 15 when Tattoo You was released, and had spent the previous year putting the bulk of my paper route money into buying the Stones' back catalog. Tattoo You was the first Stones album I bought on the day of release so I'll always have a special connection to it. It doesn't hurt that it's a great record. Bring on the deluxe edition.

We now have a smattering of pre-order links in the first post. They're not active yet, but should be by tomorrow. Release date for all configurations will be October 22nd.

The big box will be four CDs accompanied by a vinyl picture disc LP.

There will probably be a 2CD Deluxe Edition (no links for this yet), and definitely a simple 1CD version.

More to come!

I'm glad that the legendary (and as far as I know, unbootlegged) version of "Start Me Up" is finally seeing the light of day.

But when I hear about a Stones archival release like this these days, my initial interest/excitement is always immediately followed up with the realization that here is yet another 'new' Stones track that Jimbo never got to hear.

I was confused at first by the Still Life part of the set, but I see it is not an extended version of the boring live album from the U.S. tour. Does anyone know if the Wembley concert is of worthy consideration?
