Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the first Iron Man film and you do have to wonder how long Downey Jr, Evans, Hemsworth and co will continue playing these roles?

So when the time comes (and assuming the films continue) will Disney just recast and carry on (like they used to do in the Bond movies before Craig) or will they reboot too?

What your preference?

Also assuming the X-Men and FF are coming into the fold how will this affect things? (Should they use any of the actors from the Fox movies or completely ignore those* versions?)

(*I'm thinking more X-Men here than FF of course.)

Recast, I think a reboot would be disastrous.

That's my thought too, after having gone to so much trouble to set everything up.

I wouldn't mind if the X-Men were rebooted though (if/when they get incorporated) as the Fox version is quite messy now.

The Amazing Spider-Man showed that people don't need a hard reboot.

I've still not seen that, but I am glad to hear it, I think people are fed up of Spider-Man being rebooted.

The Universe is getting a bit crowded to if you see the new Avengers Infinity trailer, I count at least 24 major characters in that movie alone. By far the most crowded Marvel film ever, they are throwing in everything including a kitchen sink.

Recast is the way to go. They've already done it with Rhodey (for different reasons, but still, shows they are willing).

Completely agree with the recast idea, as well. I never cared for the legacy concept that invaded comics. The stories should be here and now, and whatever has already happened should just be "before".

And at what point do we experience superhero fatigue? They've had a hell of a 10 year run (beginning with Iron Man (2008) with each movie getting bigger and bigger making tons of $$$. But one day people will get tired of the same formula, you know, the ever present vortex. the armies of evil bat wing zombie creatures that are easily eliminated, the third act where the good guy battles the bad guy.

We have the successful effort of Batman Begins to blame for the reboot tendency. Hopefully, that era is past. Recast, always recast. Flashbacks every now and then for origin details.

The Spider-Man reboot is now a common joke. I was reading an article about terrorism the other day and the author made a reference to ISIS and their suspected relocation to Indonesia as a possible 'Spider-Man reboot' of their terrorist activities.

They can just recast. It makes much more sense.

I think re-casting is the way to go, but I think a recasting of both Iron Man and Captain America is essentially doomed - I think those actors are so stamped as the characters that the next 'incarnation' of each has a massive uphill battle.

They might surprise us all and have the characters age, becoming mentors to characters who are 'new' (to the movie audience anyway), and gradually phasing in the new ones as the older characters take a less prominent role. They can always do an in-story reboot too, where Loki pulls some BS mystical stunt and they all become 'younger' versions of themselves of whatever.

I always thought Old Man Toy Stark would make for a fun story anyway. He needs the armor to
power his heart, fight evil baddies, help him get around the house, to poop, etc.

Deep down—and perhaps not even all that deep—while watching Marvel movies, cartoons, and
TV Shows, I found—and still find—myself irked at the order of appearances. Never liked the idea that
someone like Bobby Drake would be just showing up in the X-Men when later heroes like Storm were
already there and teaching at the school.
