Description
Unreleased solo acoustic album recorded in 1976 featuring 2 previously unreleased songs!

Hitchhiker includes solo, acoustic songs recorded in 1976 at the Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu, California. Writing in "Special Deluxe", Neil Young's -- second memoir -- Gary Burden comments on Hitchhiker:

"I spent the night there with David and recorded nine solo acoustic songs, completing a tape I called Hitchhiker.

It was a complete piece, although I was pretty stony on it, and you can hear it in my performances. Dean Stockwell, my friend and a great actor who I later worked on Human Highway as a co-director, was with us that night, sitting in the room with me as I laid down all the songs in a row, pausing only for weed, beer, or coke. Briggs was in the control room, mixing live on his favorite console."

Gary Burden is Neil Young's long time art director and cover graphic artist. Also, credited is Jenice Heo, who is responsible for Art Direction, Design.

Tracklist
1. Pocahontas
2. Powderfinger
3. Captain Kennedy
4. Hawaii
5. Give Me Strength
6. Ride My Llama
7. Hitchhiker
8. Campaigner
9. Human Highway
10. The Old Country Waltz

I've updated Renny's post with the info that's currently out there. Will replace the link with a real one once Amazon lists this -- WAN assumes that there will be a domestic release, and hopefully not just vinyl.

IF ( a very big IF) it ever comes out.

neil is getting weirder in his old age, if that is even possible.

Just be Thankful for what's being offered. Anything that comes out in the years we have left is a blessing.

just sitting here thinking:

neil young is releasing 10 single albums, 1 double album, and a supposed multiple album set (archives, unreleased material is unknown) in the next few months.....and only 3 new songs (that are actually very old songs ) in the entire 12....and we are clamoring for it all.

the man is a marketing genius (or eliot roberts is) or they both are

Or we're a bunch of fools who keep buying the "improved" version of the same product over & over! (I include myself in that statement!)

I've heard that Neil Young might be even better than The Monkees.

What would Monkee wanna-be Stephen Stills say about that?

That he (& music fans everywhere) got very lucky that he was turned down! We would have lost so much great music from Stills if he'd been a prefab 4. The Monkees were amusing when I was 10 years old; but they're not even in the same book as CSNY & off shoots.

The fact remains that Stephen Stills wasn't good enough for The Monkees. It's Don Kirshner's word against Jann Wenner's.

That's a tough one Linda (or is it?). I think that I'll have to go with Don though. He doesn't rule over some sham, dopey, fake phony fraud hall of fame. A major plus for him.

FYI:

both stills and young played on monkees songs.....because the real monkees weren't good enough to do so.

Of course, neither did the Motown groups or many other vocal groups such as the Mamas and the Papas, doo wop groups, etc. Not to mention Linda Ronstadt, Joe Cocker, etc.

Brian Wilson used session musicians on his greatest productions for The Beach Boys. Nobody (except maybe Renny) would accuse Brian of not being a serious artist.
