and yes id complain a lot about comps, greatest hits, box sets, etc etc etc........why.....you ask (probably didn't ask but you are going to hear it anyway)
we, me, as the consumer of music for over 50 years now, believes that if you are going to do something at this point in time, do it right.
the object at this point in time should not be to milk the public of their cash, but that is exactly what it has become. (and yes, i know that no one is forcing anyone to buy anything.)
however, the constant, and i mean constant, recycling of the same old stuff on various incarnations of albums has just gotten to the point of absurdity. i get the argument of selling the music to new fans, i really do, but in the case of the byrds: 2 4CD box sets, a 3CD collected, and umpteen greatest hits/best of packages that have been released over the last 40 years or so. and every one have basically the same 12 - 15 core songs of the byrds.
and recently this influx old radio shows in lieu of any new product is just as alarming to me. and i guess that i could take these if they sounded OK, but a couple of the ones i heard were worse than the old boots from back in the day when a guy sat in the crowd with a microphone up his sleeve.
i don't know, i probably shouldn't complain, but i'm getting old and crotchety and i really miss new music by long time heroes, i miss it a lot......when i look at pause and play, and linda's lists of upcoming releases and i see nothing form anyone that i ever remotely care about is truly disheartening.
i've always joked about "doors territory", but "doors territory" is very real....and getting more and more crowded.
sorry for the long post, but i just wanted to clarify myself.
p.s. sorry about your $5 linda, but jimbo will put it to good use and purchase a promo copy of someone's greatest hits CD
