Alien and Aliens are essential movie viewing. Alien 3 destroys everything positive about Aliens and ruins so many other things. I like to just think of it as a duology and ignore any of the later films. 3 is actually not bad, if you aren't at all invested in everything that happened in Aliens, but if you are, it's just so depressing.

The fourth one is great, though.

:paranoid:

I've heard.

(Never seen any of them.)

I think they made the fourth one in the late 80s or early 90s, and it was good. (AKA, everything in that sentence is 100% wrong)

Your Whedon fanboyism is sickening since you liked Avengers.

New ‘Alien’ Movie Confirmed with Director Neill Blomkamp

20th Century Fox has closed a deal with director Neill Blomkamp to develop a new “Alien” movie, sources confirm.

The untitled sci-fi project is separate from “Prometheus 2,” which Fox is still making with Ridley Scott.

Blomkamp, who directed “District 9″ and the upcoming Sony feature “Chappie,” had been teasing the project in recent months but said the extra-terrestrial reboot was likely abandoned. It was supposed to star “Alien” veteran Sigourney Weaver.

But on Wednesday Blomkamp confirmed the tentpole was back on track at Fox.

“So I think this is officially my next film,” he confirmed on Instagram.

It’s unclear whether Weaver is still attached to the movie.

According to insiders, the new “Alien” takes place years after the “Prometheus” sequel. Scott is producing both films through his production company Scott Free.

“Prometheus,” also distributed by Fox, was “loosely based” on the “Alien” franchise and earned over $400 million worldwide. But the 3D movie opened to mixed reviews, and Fox hopes Blomkamp, who last directed “Elysium,” can take the franchise to the next level.

You've touched upon why I have a positive vibe toward the movie despite not seeing it, but you're all backwards.

Poor Man's JJ Abrams wrote:
In Alien 4, the director changed something so that it didn't make any sense. He wanted someone to go and get a gun and get killed by the alien, so I wrote that in and tried to make it work, but he directed it in a way that it made no sense whatsoever. And I was sitting there in the editing room, trying to come up with looplines to explain what's going on, to make the scene make sense, and I asked the director, "Can you just explain to me why he's doing this? Why is he going for this gun?" And the editor, who was French, turned to me and said, with a little leer on his face, [adopts gravelly, smarmy, French-accented voice] "Because eet's een the screept." And I actually went and dented the bathroom stall with my puddly little fist.

:D

Whedon is the John Byrne of movies. I'd like to French kiss that French director.

And I'm still mystified by its origin.

Neill Blomkamp Talks 'Alien' Project: Ridley Scott "Likes the Idea of What I Want to Make"

Neill Blomkamp's Alien movie — currently in development at Fox — might have been created independently of the studio's plans for a follow-up to Ridley Scott's Prometheus, but the director says that the two will easily co-exist in terms of plot.

"I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping Prometheus a little bit," Blomkamp told Empire about potential plot clashes between his revival of Scott's earlier space horror franchise and the current prequel series set in the same fictional universe. "One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make."

The Chappie director wasn't about to spill the beans about what that might be, however, instead teasing that even revealing his idea for the movie's title would be too much information. "I sent the title to Ridley," he said. "It's kinda quite bold, but it gives away to much if I say the title."

Blomkamp announced that Fox had greenlit a script based on his ideas last month, following his posting concept art for the project online. The project will be produced by Scott through his Scott Free Productions company.

Of the mysterious title, Blomkamp had one more hint to give: "In the event that it doesn't work, I'm dead in the water," he said. Is that a hint about what the title might be, or maybe a sign of the script's big idea?

Neill Blomkamp Reveals New 'Alien 5' Concept Art on Instagram

Click for full size

Neill Blomkamp has revealed new concept art for the fifth Alien film on Instagram and we get a glimpse of a battle weary Ripley and Hicks.

The South African director said he was loving work on the project, that will see Sigourney Weaver reprise her most iconic role.

Previously, Blomkamp has said he would look to ignore the last two sequels and continue the story from James Cameron's Aliens which featured Hicks (Michael Biehn). "I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of Aliens. So it's Alien, Aliens and then this movie," Blomkamp told Sky Movies.

Though Blomkamp hasn't revealed too much of the plot for his Alien film thus far, he has settled on a title and also said that Ridley Scott, one of the producers of the movie, "likes the idea of what I want to make."

I don't think I'd bother seeing this. Alien 3 just killed it for me, really. Prometheus was such a disappointment that I just have no interest in that whole fictional universe any more. They can do Alien: The Musical, or cross it over with the Terminator franchise....couldn't care less.

I loved the first two, kind of liked bits of the third one but ultimately felt it was a failure. I loathed Resurrection (picked it up from a dollar bin DVD sale). I think the franchise was really suited to just a couple of movies, unless they moved in the direction of exploring the Xenomorph's interactions with races other than human and people who aren't Ripley.

With this low grosses for Terminator:Genisys and the remakes of Robocop and Total Recall, the studio shouldn't bet their mortgage on expected profits from this movie. Franchise fatigue may have set in with the public.
