In Alien 4, the director changed something so that it didn't make any sense. He wanted someone to go and get a gun and get killed by the alien, so I wrote that in and tried to make it work, but he directed it in a way that it made no sense whatsoever. And I was sitting there in the editing room, trying to come up with looplines to explain what's going on, to make the scene make sense, and I asked the director, "Can you just explain to me why he's doing this? Why is he going for this gun?" And the editor, who was French, turned to me and said, with a little leer on his face, [adopts gravelly, smarmy, French-accented voice] "Because eet's een the screept." And I actually went and dented the bathroom stall with my puddly little fist.

Neill Blomkamp Talks 'Alien' Project: Ridley Scott "Likes the Idea of What I Want to Make"

Neill Blomkamp's Alien movie — currently in development at Fox — might have been created independently of the studio's plans for a follow-up to Ridley Scott's Prometheus, but the director says that the two will easily co-exist in terms of plot.

"I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping Prometheus a little bit," Blomkamp told Empire about potential plot clashes between his revival of Scott's earlier space horror franchise and the current prequel series set in the same fictional universe. "One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make."

The Chappie director wasn't about to spill the beans about what that might be, however, instead teasing that even revealing his idea for the movie's title would be too much information. "I sent the title to Ridley," he said. "It's kinda quite bold, but it gives away to much if I say the title."

Blomkamp announced that Fox had greenlit a script based on his ideas last month, following his posting concept art for the project online. The project will be produced by Scott through his Scott Free Productions company.

Of the mysterious title, Blomkamp had one more hint to give: "In the event that it doesn't work, I'm dead in the water," he said. Is that a hint about what the title might be, or maybe a sign of the script's big idea?

Neill Blomkamp Reveals New 'Alien 5' Concept Art on Instagram



Neill Blomkamp has revealed new concept art for the fifth Alien film on Instagram and we get a glimpse of a battle weary Ripley and Hicks.

The South African director said he was loving work on the project, that will see Sigourney Weaver reprise her most iconic role.

Previously, Blomkamp has said he would look to ignore the last two sequels and continue the story from James Cameron's Aliens which featured Hicks (Michael Biehn). "I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of Aliens. So it's Alien, Aliens and then this movie," Blomkamp told Sky Movies.

Though Blomkamp hasn't revealed too much of the plot for his Alien film thus far, he has settled on a title and also said that Ridley Scott, one of the producers of the movie, "likes the idea of what I want to make."

It's time to bring the Alien to New York.
