beware gran funk, last time they played around here only don brewer was the one of the original 3/4 and the touring band had 5 members.
just my opinion of course, but grand funk fits into the journey/yes category in that there is one very integral member and without that member it simply is not grand funk.

Disagree, the comparisons don't fit. GFR was only 3 guys (later a 4th w/supplemental keyboard) which Mark Farner could have done in studio. Simply Mark Farner is "the" man. Single handedly lead his group to super stardom.

Rick, I thought that was what Renny was saying when I agreed?????
Yeah, I guess you and Renny are right. As you can see I can get VERY touchy when it comes to Mark Farner.
I have had correspondence with him and he's a very good guy. With all the real tough breaks he and his family has incurred the man's roots are unshakeable. You don't see that kind of faith much anymore.

Just to clarify, Mark Farner is the performer appearing on this tour, not the other guys from Grand Funk. This is the Happy Together tour which Flo & Eddie organize every year or so. John Montagna, the bass player on this tour, has an interesting podcast where last year he talked with several of his tour mates, including Chuck Negron, Gary Puckett and both Flo and Eddie. Maybe he'll snag an interview with Farner this time around.

And I would love to see Mark Farner (I am a big Grand Funk fan and have never seen them) but that's the night of my daughters Prom. Daddy needs to take pictures.

Banned??? Moi???
We saw the original Grand Funk line-up at the Beacon Theater when the reunited back in 1997 (17 years ago already????) The audience had the highest density of guys with gray ponytails I've ever seen. And while everybody went crazy during "American Band," the old timers in the crowd sat on their hands during "The Locomotion" and "Bad Time."

I saw GFR sometime in the early 70's Billy Preston opened & also sat in with GF. They did pretty much lose me when they intentionally went top 40 (locomotion, etc), & then Farner went religious.
Early GFR really got a raw deal from the critics. I remember in Jr High (grade 7-9) it was considered so unhip to like them, that I largely kept it to myself that they had 2 or 3 albums I really liked (especially the first double live album). Fact is, Farner is a decent player; but the critics decided he sucked. Uriah Heep got much of the same treatment in the day; again unjustifiably imo.

I saw Grand Funk in 1981 during the "Grand Funk Lives" tour. They played near the Air force base at the Jai-Alai in Tampa with the majority of the fans being service man. And when Mark Farner came out in his fatigues, which he was wearing for the tour, the serviceman when freak'in wild. And it just got hotter after that. Great night and was really proud of the band! What a show, I'll never forget.
