Amazon lists the big Sound System box, a separate 5-CD box set (just the remastered original albums in mini LP sleeve packaging) and a placemarker (not yet pre-orderable) for the 2-CD hits compilation. Links added above.

Product Description
The Clash Sound System is the band's re-mastered recorded works collected together for the first time. Contained within classic boombox packaging designed by Paul Simonon, this boxset contains the band's 5 seminal studio albums in their original 8-disc format, newly re-mastered by The Clash, a further 3 discs featuring demos, non-album singles, rarities and B-sides, a DVD with previously unseen footage by both Don Letts and Julien Temple, original promo videos and live footage, an owner's manual booklet, reprints of the band's original 'Armagideon Times' fanzine as well as a brand new edition curated and designed by Paul Simonon and merchandise including dog tags, badges, stickers and an exclusive Clash poster.

This is probably the breaking point of something I would really want, but can't (or refuse) to afford.

$290 is too much, and even with price drops closer to release date, it probably won't go below $200

This. It's kind of ironic that The Clash always strove to make their original releases affordable, even when they were releasing two and three-album sets. I wonder what Joe Strummer would have made of all of this?

I wish it weren't so much...but it might be a must-have. Even discounting the bonus materials, all my Clash was on cassette or LP, and I have no way to play either anymore (nor do I have the tapes or records anymore!)

Amazon UK has it for £111.81 ($170)......I don't know what subtracting VAT and adding shipping does to the price.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008U3NU38/?tag=imwan-21

Still a little much for me, but I'll see if they lower it later.

This may be a case where I look at Import CDs again........(they're not listing it yet)

Yikes! that's some box set. Put it down on the early Christmas gift list?

Need to see the complete tracklist versus the previous remasters before I make any decisions here... maybe I'll get to sell off the singles box to soften the blow.

If it were not for the fact he was cremated, Joe would certainly be spinning in his grave.

I'd love to get this for my sister, but it's way too rich for my blood.

Shame.

They don't consider it an actual Clash album.

Sort of like a Complete Van Halen albums collection that omits Van Halen III?

I guess I can see it from that point of view.

It'll likely come out a little cheaper, even adding in shipping (minus the VAT).

I'm a huge Clash fan, but I've got so much of what's on the extra discs, I can't see spending this much for so little that I don't have.

Anything on CDs 9 and 10 that's not on Black Market Clash, Clash On Broadway, or the CD singles box?

Tracks 11,12, 13 and 15 on disc 10 are new to me. I have all the Remasters (including the 1st album in UK and US versions), Clash On Broadway, The original Black Market Clash on NuDisc and a Canadian CD release, The 2 Live releases: Shea Stadium and From Here To Eternity, 1977 Revisited, and The Singles Box. Unless these tracks are hidden on a couple of the Singles discs, I have never seen them on CD. Disc 11 seems to be all unreleased but I wonder what the sound quality is like. It looks like most of the stuff on the DVD has been on the 4 DVD's that have been released through the years. This is a real gut check for me. I love The Clash. I was lucky enough to see them live 5 times including the chaos at Bond. Dropping $150+ on this for what looks to be 1 disc of unreleased material and a bunch of tchotchke just plain reeks. I have to draw the line somewhere.

Amazon's listing for the Hits Back 2-CD compilation is now live and can be pre-ordered:

Image

Product Description
The Clash Hits Back' features 33 of the band's iconic tracks, across a 2-CD set. The tracklisting is sequenced from the band's legendary Brixton Fairdeal show in 1982 and contains the best studio recordings of the full set, plus 8 additional iconic tracks. It comes with the original setlist, handwritten by Joe Strummer which he would tape to the back of his Telecaster before each gig.

"Every show was different. Joe would spend a lot of time composing the running order, considering dynamics, emotional impact and the key the songs were in. This record is based on Joe's setlist from The Casbah Club UK Tour, Brixton Fairdeal, 10th July 1982". -Mick, Paul & Topper.

This is truly a shameless cash grab.

Cut The Crap indeed.

I like how some bands get involved in revisionist history-as bad as it was Cut The Crap was a Clash album guys!
