I think it is live. My guess is it is material from the original 12 record set the History and Collected Improvisations of FZ and the MOI.
Years ago 1 side of one of the records leaked out to traders -
This is the details on that - the first 5 tracks could very well be these -
Probably one side of the unreleased multiple-LP collection "The History And Collected Improvisations Of The Mothers Of Invention". Parts are recorded at The Royal Albert Hall in London in 1969; parts are studio recording. Here are the made up titles from the traders -
Albert Hall Spoken Introduction Chamber Music Piece 1 Mozart Ballet (parts on YCDTOSA5) Some Zany MOI Bullshit Chamber Music Piece (I like the stuff from this tape - there are also tapes of two of the other discs out there)
Also - from February 16, 1969, The Ballroom, Stratford CT Skweezit Skweezit Skweezit on the Mystery Disc -
The Subcutaneous Peril - Is known as a solo from Carnigie Hall (from the 2 disc version of Just Another Band From LA - not released as such) but it could be something else. Sometimes FZ recycled titles - (IF this is The History...it was pre 1971).
My guess is this is something he broke down from the set - maybe added something "new" (1971) and set it aside.
As we already have seen - Understanding America really only has 1 unique track. This could have been all unique material when originally put together - but over the years some things have come out officially and unofficially.
God only knows what FZ had in the vault - he was constantly working there 18 hours a day/night when not on tour - constantly arranging - rearranging and then moving onto something else. We will probably never hear 95% of the contents.

Looks like a MOI comp FZ put together in 1972
here are hints that this would be a 1972 Mothers Of Invention compilation project. Here are some more recording contracts (including the "Pumped And Waxed" one), all dated on June 26, 1972, whether they're recorded in Mayfair Studios, 1967 ("Music From The Big Squeeze"), Criteria Studios, Miami, 1969 ("You Never Know Who Your Friends Are"), The Ark, Boston, 1969 ("Uncle Rhebus"), or Zappa's basement, date unknown ("Pumped And Waxed"):

At one point there was gonna be a 2 disc version of JABFLA.
Billy the Mountain was expanded and there were solo's from King Kong and A Pound For A Brown.
One of them had the title of The Subcutaneous Peril - unsure whether or not it's the same or not as FZ reused - used titles.
Billy The Mountain Pt. 2 (JABFLA, with solos), The Subcutaneous Peril (= Pound For A Brown solo), An Easy Substitute For Eternity Itself (= King Kong solos)
Both came from the Carnigie Hall show.
Somewhere along the way - it got shortened - but a aceate copy got out - it is alive amongst the trading circles (zappateers).
The SQ is OK. It is very interesting. ...or so I am told.

Here's the entire 8/7/71 Pauley Pavillion show that JABFLA was taken from.....(divided into 6 YouTube segments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4othwJk ... C8&index=1I've listened to Billy The Mountain so much over the year that I can tell where the edited parts are listening to this.

more investigating yielded the following from zappateers http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/ ... um/1896231The Big Squeeze seems to be the same as the Lost Episodes, and the sample of Squeeze It matches the Mystery Disc version - no surprises there. I found a match for There Is No Heaven From Where Slogans Go To Die. It appears to be the same as You Call That Music? on YCDTOSA vol. 4. That track is 4:07, and the version on the Artisan acetate, titled 'East L.A.', is 4:59; the Finer Moments version is listed as 4:37, which splits the difference. The sample for The Subcutaneous Peril is, indeed, the Pound for a Brown solo from Carnegie Hall, which was to have been released under the same title on the second disc of JABFLA. Except that can't possibly be all of it, because the Finer Moments track is 19:41, while the purported JABFLA track, which comprises the whole solo, clocks in at 5:15. So that's a mystery. Maybe it's a collage of different improvisations? The sample for Enigmas 1 Thru 5 is all percussion. I'd guess that it's studio, rather than live. The sample for Pumped and Waxed is mostly electronic tones, with those telephone-button harmonies Frank loved, along with some pizzicato guitar.

Actual liner notes (what I posted before was summarized in my words) Welcome. What we have here is a Welcome Mat. This special invitation comes with a bit of flooring - over by the chrome dinette. So what we got is some linoleum (and later some vinyl) which we are recycling right here on the floor. Yes. Too late to be wanting any more. We will just have to be satisfied with the dense if not entirely ecumenical patina which has existed for years: nothing has changed. This is somewhat about flooring and the navigation thereof. FZ definitely wheelin' and dealin' in his wheelchair rigged to support an epic plaster cast with a bit of sinister footwear strapped to a modified stirrup - this was the condition the condition was in when he worked up Just Another Band From L. Waka/Jawaka. GRAND WAZOO and Density of the Fourth Patina (if you're counting) is/was HUNCHentoot. Who knew? And these Finer Moments. You will not see/hear their like again in this dimension. Lucky for us all that FZ captured them in the camera of his mind. and in camera in the vault.
That's what the liner notes say.
What say I? - The music is GREAT. favorites Walking Zombie Music, The Old Curiosity Shoppe, Uncle Rhebus, Enigmas 1 Thru 5, There Is No Heaven..., the Subcutaneous Peril.

I finally got around to listening to this......really like it....well put together. There's lots of time where I prefer listening to FZ albums like this instead of his rock stuff.
The last (2+ minutes) of Uncle Rhebus (after the King Kong solos) is a piece of orchestral music that has been on numerous albums under different titles....it's part of Bogus Pomp on OF/LSO.....anyone know if it had an actual name?

I'm on my 2nd listen. Unfortunately, same feeling as the first time: I called this my #5 best album of 2012 based on disc 1, but I can't stand disc 2 (other than the last song which is great). Weird. I should probably make a compilation with all of disc 1 & Subteranious Peril from disc 2!

Disc 1 is much stronger - I agree - much more what I view as music - as are the last 2 tracks on disc 2. The balance of disc 2 is more out there - for me it took several listens to get it. I am glad that the ZFT put this out there.
