Two CD live archive release. It was 1986 and a reunion was being planned for the 1970s British super-group, Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Carl Palmer however was still contractually obliged to record two more albums for Geffen Records with his own platinum band, Asia.

So, with the blessing of Carl Palmer, Emerson and Lake decided to carry on with another drummer. After a brief search, it was suggested to Emerson and Lake that they should approach Cozy Powell, a handsome Brit with a long list of successful band memberships, would soon prove to be the best choice to fill Palmer's illustrious shoes.

After only one rehearsal, it was clear to both Emerson and Lake that ELPowell would indeed be a very different sounding band than Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Previously, these recordings could only be heard on illegal bootlegs, with considerably poorer audio quality, but after locating a first generation board recording, the tapes were digitally re-mastered and are now sonically better than ever. Enjoy a trip back to 1986 and the year of Emerson, Lake and Powell!

OK, can anyone tell me what this is? I still have my cassette copy of the ELP show from Lakeland, FL in 1986 which I assume is the source for this live material and the show was really cool and the FM broadcast was of excellent quality. What this sounds like I can only imagine.

I believe the other CD is the Sprockets Sessions or whatever they called it from a rehearsal that had I believe an official release years ago. I never heard it but assumed it was crap. This claims to be remastered, but I'd be leery especially with Store For Music. I really enjoyed this era of the band so any help on this would be appreciated, but I am guessing it's of terrible quality. I hope I am wrong. I assume this a reissue of both the live CD and rehearsal CD in one package claiming to be remastered. But if the quality is good, I'd get it, although my FM copy has more live tracks than what is listed here.

Pete, Store For Music is a legitimate UK label which has released the Live From London DVD series (taken from televised Camden Palace gigs) and a bunch of live CDs. They're good quality with acceptable remastering. The ones I have sound better than the TV and radio broadcasts they were sourced from.

I'd be interested in a review if anyone hears it: both is it worth bothering with musically, & the sound quality.

Linda, who are some of the other artists they've released live shows from?

They run the gamut, but most of the video performances are from the late '80s and early '90s:

US: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?search- ... g=imwan-20

UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search?searc ... g=imwan-21

I've included the USA listings because it's not always clear if the UK listings for this label's DVDs are NTSC/Region 0. The versions listed at Amazon USA are export editions which are formatted specifically for the North American market.

Thanks! interesting, several of these titles were on Renaissance (USA) (kind if a semi legit/semi boot label) before they went under.

Here's a couple I'd somewhat recommend:

Roxy Music 70's Ebbets Field Denver (has been on several labels)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CQP4BQ/?tag=imwan-20

Bob Welch Roxy (has a couple tracks with Stevie Nicks. Not the best sound, but interesting)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000XXBPRG/?tag=imwan-20

Blue Oyster Cult 1981 (I'm pretty sure this is 1/2 of Tales Of The Psychic Wars
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000SFL92A/?tag=imwan-20

This Eric Burdon set interests me (though something about it seems oddly familiar, but i can't place it):

Hey IP, after looking at the track listing and comparing them to the Official Bootleg series on Manticore they are exactly as you had surmised.

My understanding is that the Lakeland, FL show on 9/4/86 (which I was in 3rd row ctr) was being recorded for a King Biscuit Flower Hour show. The show was excellent but poorly promoted and therefore many seats went unsold. I still recall Keith's unhappiness about this, you could see it in his face especially when he and Greg Lake shook hands at the end of the show but I digress.

Track 10 "The Score" starts the Sprocket set which you had also noted which finish up the disc.

Sad thing is that boots that I have from this era include tracks recorded for the Lakeland show such as "Still You Turn me On", "Watching Over You", "Keith's piano solo", Creole Dancer" and "From the Beginning" not being added to this reissue.

Other tracks were recorded at the Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland on 9/23/06 and included on the boots but not carried over to this official release.

Many omissions from the Sprocket sessions are also found on the Hiwatt boot. One cool thing about the unedited Sprocket is at times you can hear the conversations when there are disagreements on the arrangements or Keith having a row with the sound engineer Tony Taverner about the keyboard sound and arrangements.

But as for these releases I wish the "Shout" label, who has done some great work of the bands past live catalogue would redo these. Maybe that is still a possibility here in the States.
