OK, can anyone tell me what this is? I still have my cassette copy of the ELP show from Lakeland, FL in 1986 which I assume is the source for this live material and the show was really cool and the FM broadcast was of excellent quality. What this sounds like I can only imagine.
Hey IP, after looking at the track listing and comparing them to the Official Bootleg series on Manticore they are exactly as you had surmised.
My understanding is that the Lakeland, FL show on 9/4/86 (which I was in 3rd row ctr) was being recorded for a King Biscuit Flower Hour show. The show was excellent but poorly promoted and therefore many seats went unsold. I still recall Keith's unhappiness about this, you could see it in his face especially when he and Greg Lake shook hands at the end of the show but I digress.
Track 10 "The Score" starts the Sprocket set which you had also noted which finish up the disc.
Sad thing is that boots that I have from this era include tracks recorded for the Lakeland show such as "Still You Turn me On", "Watching Over You", "Keith's piano solo", Creole Dancer" and "From the Beginning" not being added to this reissue.
Other tracks were recorded at the Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland on 9/23/06 and included on the boots but not carried over to this official release.
Many omissions from the Sprocket sessions are also found on the Hiwatt boot. One cool thing about the unedited Sprocket is at times you can hear the conversations when there are disagreements on the arrangements or Keith having a row with the sound engineer Tony Taverner about the keyboard sound and arrangements.
But as for these releases I wish the "Shout" label, who has done some great work of the bands past live catalogue would redo these. Maybe that is still a possibility here in the States.
