Bob Dylan Complete CD Box Set for Fall--Digital Included The word is Columbia Records is preparing the ultimate Bob Dylan box set– a collection of all his albums including his bootleg series. The massive box will be a Dylanographer’s delight, collecting every single track including single tracks like “George Jackson” that never made into onto an album. There will also be a couple of CDs with miscellaneous tracks, so that just about everything you ever heard, had, lost, or wanted is all in one place. The price for this super collection is said to be $300–but there’s an upside. I am told that there will be a code so buyers can download the whole thing for free as well. “It seemed crazy to say here it is, now go upload the whole thing into your computer too,” says a source.

Wasn't something similar to this done on iTunes a few years ago wherein one had to purchase the entire thing in order to obtain the so-called rarities disc? From what I recall, the "rarities" weren't all that rare for Dylan collectors.

Hmmm, does this mean all the titles which haven't been remastered now will be?
I'd like brand-spanking-new remasters of Self Portrait, Pat Garrett & Bill The Kid, Dylan, Hard Rain, Saved, Shot of Love & Empire Burlesque for starters.

I might hold by breath and get this if rare singles like George Jackson are included......I'm sure some stuff will end up missing like live tracks from the Love Sick singles etc.

Dylan has been around so long that he has material exclusive to just about every medium imaginable, from VHS to CD-ROM, but there have been roughly a half-dozen or so Dylan tracks officially released on vinyl that have never appeared on CD. I'd have to look them up to get an exact number. "George Jackson" is pretty rare, but there is rarer Dylan out there.

"George Jackson" is on the Masterpieces CD set, so it has been available on compact disc before.
The big band version of George Jackson is on Masterpieces. I don't believe that the acoustic version has ever been on CD, at least a Dylan CD. It's on the recently released, atrociously titled Listen Whitey compilation.

You're right, there's two versions on that 45 if memory serves. The big band cut was the hit version though, right?

I don't know. Was it a hit? I wasn't aware of that.

"Band of the Hand," anyone?
Aside from the obscure Japanese promo "Mr D.'s Collection #3" , I don't think this has ever seen release on CD. It's Hell time, Man!
Edit: I just checked, and it doesn't appear it's even on that set. Anywhere else?
I'm pretty sure that I have that on something. I'll have to check when I go home later.
I have the 7" (w/ picture sleeve) and a promo 12". But I've never seen it on a CD. You'd think between all the Dylan and Petty comps out there, it woulda turned up by now.

Let's see...now that I'm back at my desk...officially released Dylan songs never released on CD:
(Note: This list does not include promo-only songs (for example, the "Blood On The Tracks" outtakes, or the promo version of "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan") or songs found on extremely rare, but official CD's ("Never Let Me Go" or the alternate version of "From A Buick 6") or songs available online (whether for streaming or download). Details on all of those songs (plus every song upon which Bob appeared as a side musician) can be found at http://www.searchingforagem.com/RaritiesHeader.htm cross-indexed by type of recording, name of the song, or year of release.
These are just the songs that have been officially released on vinyl but not CD:
1. "Band Of The Hand" (1986) (the only song on this list to appear on a 12" as well as a 7" record.) 2. "Let It Be Me" (1981) b-side of "Heart Of Mone", remake of song originally covered by Dylan on the "Self-Portrait" album 3. "If You Gotta Go, Go Now (Or Else You Got To Stay All Night)" (1967) Single released in Benelux countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxumbourg) 4. "Corrina, Corrina" (1962) b-side of "Mixed-Up Confusion), band version, different from version later released on "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan." 5. "Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground" (1983) b-side used on various international singles of songs from "Infidels" 6. "Twas The Night Before Christmas" (2009) b-side of promo "Must Be Santa" single bundled with copies of the "Christmas In The Heart" album ordered through the Sony online store.

Dang! How'd I miss this one? Thanks! Time to do some hunting.

J&R had a limited quantity of this 45 that they gave away with purchase of the Christmas CD. That's how I got mine.

Give me these four items and I'll be a pretty happy guy! (Actually, I had a "Blood on the Tracks" boot at one time. Don't know if I still have it.)
