Product Description
Eagle Records are delighted to announce the release of the “Live At Montreux 1980” album [Cat No. EAGCD452] from Rockpile on 23 August 2011. This release is part of a batch of high profile Montreux audio releases for summer 2011. “Live At Montreux 1980” is the only live Rockpile album ever released and includes the hit singles “I Knew The Bride”, “Queen Of Hearts”, “Girls Talk”, “Crawling From The Wreckage”, “I Hear You Knocking” and many more.

Rockpile was formed in the mid-seventies by Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds. Due to contractual obligations, Lowe and Edmunds had to record for different labels so the Rockpile name was only used when the band played live even though they performed on records by both artists. Playing at Montreux in July 1980, the band were at their peak following the simultaneous release in 1979 of Nick Lowe’s “Labour Of Lust” and Dave Edmunds’ “Repeat When Necessary”. They had enjoyed a string of hit singles, most of which are included here, and were surfing on a tide of critical acclaim. Ahead of them lay the prospect of finally releasing an album under the Rockpile name, “Seconds Of Pleasure”, which would appear in autumn the same year. Sadly it proved to be the only album ever released as Rockpile as the band broke up soon after.

The line-up for this excellent show featured Dave Edmunds (guitar, vocals), Nick Lowe (bass, vocals), Billy Bremner (guitar, vocals) and Terry Williams (drums). “Live At Montreux 1980” sees them in fantastic form and this CD enhances their reputation as one of the best live bands of their era.

Thanks DanO! What a great, short-lived band.

I've been trying to avoid live albums unless they're essential, and this one definitely falls into that category. Seconds Of Pleasure and the various Lowe & Edmunds albums from this era are consistently great.

Just open my wallet and take what you want. Too bad Eagle Rock is deviating from the normal pattern: Issue the DVD, followed months later by the audio equivilent. No matter - this is an absolute purchase.

This sounds great! If it only included Billy Bremner's "Loud Music in Cars." Of course, it may not have been written in 1980.

Got my copy today. The sound isn't gonna win any engineering awards, but it's one hell of a revved-up performance.

It's been listed as an August 23rd release since it was first posted at Amazon two months ago.

The sound quality on the Montreaux disc is a little rough.

Does it sound as bad as a typical audience recording? I don't mind soundboard stuff, but I can't bring myself to listen to audience recordings regardless of the artist.

To me the tunes that Edmunds sings lead are alot clearer. The tunes that have Nick Lowe singing lead have him a little buried in the mix. Still one top notch band.

It sounds like a soundboard. It is pretty listenable, but makes one think there are better live recordings for these guys. The live cuts ob the Seconds of Pleasure reissue sound much better than this.
