I went with All Star Superman but the runners-up are Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, Justice League: Starcrossed, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and Wonder Woman.

I have yet to see Green Lantern (though I got the DVD for $5 at FYE), Batman: Under the Red Hood and Superman/Batman: Apocolypse because the other Superman/Batman animated film was so shitty.

This is disappointing --

Wiki wrote:
With the conclusion of the Justice League Unlimited animated series, Warner Bros has moved on to adapting new versions of the various DC comics properties, rather than reviving the DCAU counterparts.

The last script written for DCAU continuity was titled Justice League: Worlds Collide. This screenplay was created to bridge the several month gap between Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. The draft was eventually adapted into the February 2010 film Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, with the removal of any references specific to DCAU continuity, replacing Green Lantern John Stewart with Hal Jordan, and the casting of celebrities rather than the voice actors of the DCAU.

I liked them using an updated animation style but was thinking the whole time as I watched that movie, "They should have just used the regular voice actors for the League... especially Batman."

Seriously, they should never have anyone but that Conroy guy doing Batman.

Mask of the Phantasm is pretty much the most perfect Batman movie ever made. That is my pick.

On second place I would pick Starcrossed (though not technically a movie) since it has one of my favorite Supes/Bats moments.

All Star Superman is third. I have the impression that the terrible moments will fester like a fungus and will end up eventually damping my enjoyment of it.

Okay, not being able to finish the comic, I watched All Star Superman this weekend and really ended up enjoying it. What were the terrible moments, Rafael?

I picked Under the Red Hood. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I was disappointed with All Star Superman. I felt the stuff they decided to use detracted from the main story.

And I'll second Mask of the Phantasm as the best DC Animated, though I also like Return of the Joker.

The stuff with Samson and Atlas was a waste of time for me.

My current vote would be New Frontier, but I haven't seen Under the Red Hood, Crisis, or All-Star Superman, yet.

During the prison riot, Clark freezes some convicts so he and Luthor can escape, which lead to their deaths when the Parasite crush them.

The other I mentioned in the All Star Supey thread, Supes last line to Solaris is very UnSuperman like. In the comic he says "You'll live"

Well, it was part of the Super-Date, which is one of the key parts of the All Star Saga.

While I enjoyed it, the stuff involving the Kryptonian dictators had to seem like an odd detour to a person unfamiliar with the comic.

I think that a max-series like All Star should be handled differently than a movie with a straight narrative -- the series format rewards little side stories and detours while the short film genre seems to make them feel unneccssary and intrusive. For me, the issues that should have been adapted to keep things tight and simple for a general audience would be All Star 1-3, 5, 10-12.

I voted for Mask of the Phantasm, although on any given day I could just as easily pick Under the Red Hood (which is surprising to me in that I didn't like the source material all that much). Those two are tops for me, with New Frontier coming in third.

Count me among those slightly disappointed with All Star Superman (a case where I LOVED the source material) although I did like it overall.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies is easily the worst for me. Plotless nonsense.

I think the line was, "I'm all out of mercy" or something to that effect. It struck me as way out-of-character as well.

I didn't notice the freeze deaths.

Also, I watched the Spectre short last night and was shocked by the gruesome deaths he dealt out. I didn't realize the Spectre killed people.

It's part of his schtick. Gruesome and ironic deaths. Goes all the way back to the Golden Age.

That short was fantastic.

I loved the Spectre short and might have voted for it on its own.

I thought the animation was nice but the story was pretty weak.

I went with Return of the Joker (unedited version), as it has the best story and rewatchability factor... Mask of the Phantasm is a close second though.

I'm not familiar enough with the issue numbers to tell but I would have gone with these plot elements to emphasize the story better:

The opening - Lois to the Fortress - Superman getting garbled transmissions from the future regarding the Tyrant Sun - Crazy Lois - Super Date (maybe have them fight those stray Kryptonians here instead of Samson and Atlas) - Luthor Parasite stuff - Use the Kandorians to try to cure himself, cure the sick kids instead - take the Kandorians to their own planet - comes back to have to fight Super-Luthor and then the Tyrant Sun (then he can say, "You'll live") - flys into the Sun - the end.

Kidding: I hated that and wanted my money back afterwards. Not that it completely sucked,
but I didn't enjoy much of any of it, and I was rather hoping for a lot more.

But, Mask of the Phantasm was better, and gets me vote.
