Last weekend I was in Jacksonville for the ABA All-star weekend (I do the web site for the league) and decided to visit a local comic shop. I found one called The Universe of Superheroes:

http://www.universeofsuperheroes.com/

The guy running it was as nice as can be but I felt like I went into a time machine and was back in the 80s-90s. Very little trade paperbacks but tons of back issues. I dug the vibe and the owner so much, I scrounged to buy two trades, just to support his store.

Then I read about this new iPhone app called Pull List and thought how cool this would have been ten years ago as well but now it's time might have passed.

Comixology has been doing that for a while.

I didn't know it had pull lists for offline stores.

Fuck, I want a time machine trip!

(I really thought Allen had started a time travelling story meme.)
So a man walks into a comics shop, with the totally throwback vibe of the comics of his youth. He patronizes the shop joyfully,
scrounging up money for two trades, to support the arts. But

a) as he walks outside...

b) he asks, "what's in the back room behind this curtain?"

c) suddenly from an open mylar bag, a form begins to take on appearance, from an ephemeral mist

d) Captain America crashes backwards from the storefront window, with a robotic drone of Kang springing cat into showroom, sending several toy figures flying...

No that does sound like fun! I love rifling through back issue boxes SO much :-D
I actually miss flipping thru ones I can't have, thinking "oh, I'll be back for this one, one day!"

But I won't complain. A box with 16 Howard the Duck comics just came in the mail today! Awk!

Yep. That's how they got started in the biz, years before they got into digital comics.
