What's a good model? How much of a suck is it to clean, etc.?
What are the best things to juice, and so on?

Don't do it. The thing you can't fully appreciate until you get one is just how much stuff it takes to make juice. Like, how many fruits and vegetables that thing has to chew up to make one thimble of juice.

But other than that, mankind has perfected the juicer. They work well, and they're not to bad to clean.

So, no juicer then.

OK.
Buy a juicer, or Matt Hawes will visit you and give you his.

Is a "juicer" an appliance for squeezing the juice out of things so that you can drink it, or is a "juicer" code for an appliance that will purée all manner of food so that you can substitute electrical energy and a thing cunningly constructed from plastic, metal, and the sweaty labor of Asian workers for the act of chewing?

Don't think I can talk you into it. I'll have to use Egyptian hypnosis instead.

Do it. Freshly squeezed fruit juice is manna from Heaven.

I was looking at two particular models.
Both have some advantages.

The Omega Big Mouth Juicer Model BMJ330
http://www.discountjuicers.com/omegabigmouth.html

is a Centrifugal Ejection type juicer
very fast, very powerful, and works on a variety of fruits and vegetables.

And the The Omega VRT330 Vert Juicer
http://www.bestjuicers.com/omegavert.html

which is a slower, more quiet auger type, masticating juicer, which would
involve more manual cutting, but which one also grind up leafy stuff muc
better. Plus, it produces less air in the juice, which allows the juice to
maintain its nutrient qualities longer.

Not a fan of juicing, Steve,
or just a fan of junk kicking?

Both models would get about a cup of juice from a pound of carrots.
And yes, while that's not a lot of juice, it would be quality juice, and
I like juice.

I also tend to water my store-bought juices down.

Just spend 5 bucks on one of these

Then see how much juice you actually get out of it. Factor in that an electrical one is more efficient, but it should still give you a decent idea of how much fruit you need per glass of juice.

If I were mainly juicing oranges and grapefruit, I would use one of those.

I mainly want to juice apples, carrots, cabbage, and celery. Sure, I'll
throw in an orange or two for sweetness, but I want to juice harder stuff.

A little less than 1 cup for 1 pound of root produce seems to be what I'll get.

In practice, it feels like an entire bundle of carrots for a glass of carrot juice.

That's what it looked like in some YouTube videos I watched: about two pounds
of carrots to make a nice glass full.

Which, seems like quite a lot if you're used to only buying about a pound of carrots
a week. With an everyday juicer, you'd be buying like 15 pounds, and throwing most
of it away.

But, for me, it'd be more like having a couple "Juice days" a week.

After about three weeks, the buying of huge quantities of vegetables, only to send them to a humiliating death, begins to wear on you. Once the new wears off, it just seems like ton of fruits and vegetables going to waste (both money, and the fiber and nutrition in the structural elements).

Then, the murderous impulses set in. And you can hear the vegetables screaming.
