the Cyberman two-parter was adapted from a Peter Davison story (forget the name).
'Spare Parts', although it was more a case of "inspired by" than "adapted from" - the only real similarity between the two stories was that they were both new takes on the origin of the Cybermen. To be honest, this year's 'Fires of Pompeii' had far more in common with the Pompeii-set (and uncredited) BF adventure 'The Fires Of Vulcan' than 'Rise of the Cybermen' did with 'Spare Parts'.
Looking at spin-off media, there was also the adaptation of Paul Cornell's Seventh Doctor novel 'Human Nature'. So far, that's the only instance where I think there was an arguable improvement on the source material in the TV version.
I'm really rather looking forward to 'The Next Doctor', despite having been deeply unimpressed by both the Season 4 finale and last year's Christmas Special. 'The One Doctor' is a splendid little story, and its tone, if not all the content, has the potential for an excellent adaptation.
