[bigred]Best Of Bee Gees[/bigred] Amazon.com Long before they reinvented themselves as the kings of Saturday Night Fever, The Bee Gees were an amazing Australian trio singing songs that were more rooted by lilting folk guitar melodies than dance floor beats. The high, almost falsetto, harmonies were in place even in their hits of the mid- and late-1960s. The melodicism of hits like "Holiday" and "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" had a darker, even eerie, quality compared to the more typically melancholy "To Love Somebody." Comparing the music on Best of the Bee Gees, Volume 1 to the later antics of the Brothers Gibb is the proverbial apples and oranges. It's clear that the boys truly knew how to craft a hit regardless of the genre, but it does beg the question, "Will the real Bee Gees please stand up?" While both periods have their moments, the smart money seems to be on their earlier work. Product Description Brilliant songwriting that yielded tender and powerful hits showcase the Brothers Gibb and the harmonies that put them on the musical map. Sonically and lyrically they put their own stamp on the psychedelic rock of the late sixties and emerged with some of the most memorable hits of the decade. 'Best Of, Volume 1' features 12 stunning tracks for a fan base looking for a taste of the early Bee Gees hits. 1. Holiday 2. I've Gotta Get a Message to You 3. I Can't See Nobody 4. Words 5. I Started a Joke 6. Tomorrow, Tomorrow 7. First of May 8. World 9. Massachusetts 10. To Love Somebody 11. Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You 12. [bigred]Best Of Bee Gees, Vol. 2[/bigred] Amazon.com Of the 2 best-of discs covering the Bee Gees' pre-disco pop hits, it's the first volume that's the definitive collection. But, this 14-song follow-up is a nice companion piece, boasting several prime examples of the Gibb Brothers' emotion-drenched, vintage songcraft. Alongside "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart," "Lonely Days," and "Run to Me"--all hits from the tail end of the threesome's original run at the charts--Best of Bee Gees, Vol. 2 features such sumptuous standouts as "Melody Fair," "Morning of My Life," "And the Sun Will Shine," and Robin Gibb's gorgeously melodramatic British solo hit "Saved by the Bell." --Scott Schinder Product Description Brilliant songwriting that yielded tender and powerful hits showcase the Brothers Gibb and the harmonies that put them on the musical map. Sonically and lyrically they put their own stamp on the psychedelic rock of the late sixties and emerged with some of the most memorable hits of the late sixties and early seventies. 'Best Of, Volume 2' features 14 stunning tracks that give a real flavor of the Bee Gees late sixties and early seventies hits. 1. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart? 2. I.O.I.O. 3. Don't Wanna Live Inside Myself 4. Melody Fair 5. My World 6. Let There Be Love 7. Saved by the Bell 8. Lonely Days 9. Morning of My Life (In the Morning) 10. Don't Forget to Remember 11. And the Sun Will Shine 12. Run to Me 13. Man for All Seasons 14. Alive http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GCWRU2/?tag=imwan-20

Yeah, I was just thinking that we need another compilation remaster from the Bee Gees. F*** the individual albums like Odessa, Trafalgar...

I couldn't agree more. After the reissues of the first three international Bee Gees' albums (they did release a couple in my home country of Australia before 1st), I was really looking forward to the continued reissue of the others. But not a bloody word, except some vague hints about a reissue of Odessa, which, from what I've read, has the least number of outtakes of the early albums). Again an instance of the record companies treating the consumer with no regard (a more refined version of 'like s**t').

There's no shortage of Bee Gees comps available, so I too am puzzled as to why Rhino is futzing around with these instead of giving us more album reissues.

Watch...next will be a boxed set. 5 discs, and meant to supplant the excellent Tales of the Brothers Gibb set.

Not only did Vol. 1 originally include "Spicks and Specks", now replaced by "Tomorrow, Tomorrow", but Vol. 2 originally included "Wouldn't I Be Someone" which has now been dropped...

Am I correct in assuming that you're referring to the LPs? My copies of the Polydor CDs don't have either of the cuts you mentioned, so this change is nothing new to the Rhino reissues.

It's possible that the early CD issues were based on import LPs, which may have had different track lists. Just speculating.
