At some place that is not here, there are some Canadians who are rooting against the Carolina Hurricanes because they are in the South. Is this a typical thing up there?

Just a guess, but the 'Canes (Whalers) are better off than would be the Rockies (Nordiques) or the Coyotes (Jets), because those teams used to be Canadian.

Ian, do you have any residual feelings, good or bad, for the Coyotes?

Hank, by the Rockies do you mean the Avalanche or am I even further out of touch than I thought?

You're right....The Rockies were the old Colorado NHL team, now the NJ Devils.

I blame the allergy meds....

By "the South", I assume you mean the entire United States of America. :)

You assume incorrectly. They would rather the Redwings or Bruins win than, say, the Lightning or Hurricanes.

Do you think it's a johnny-come-lately thing, or the lack of ice? How would they feel about Blue Jackets vs. Kings?

I wish I didn't have to do this....

OK, I challenge you to look at Carolyne Erin "Stormbringer" Smith (formerly known as "Miss Fantastic") and I would match her up to any die-hard hockey fan north of the border.

What are you waiting for?

Eddie Cunningham

Not sure why this is meant for me.

Only because you pointed out that some Canadians were rooting against the 'Canes because they didn't come from a REAL hockey town. I will not argue with you that college basketball is king in the Research Triangle area, but I think Carolyne's (or Stormbringer's) passion for hockey is the equal to anyone in Canada. I was using her as an example to show that the Hurricanes do have real fans, even if Raleigh will probably never quite be an Edmonton when it comes to love for hockey...

Actually, I think Ted Alger is probably rooting the hardest for Edmonton. Look at where he is from in the profile section and you'll understand why!

An American franchise has won the NHL Championship and the right to carve their names onto the Stanley Cup. However, the actual Cup remains the property of the Canadian government.

What little jubilation I have for the whole thing is that a team in the dreaded southern United States won, regardless of the composition of said team. (IIRC, the winning goaltender is from Edmonton.)
