Hi, everybody! Today is the day to show our appreciation for our dear Uncle Twitchy! :ohyes:

Post your compliments and endearments here on this thread. And don't forget to thank him for all the great Beatlesque songs he's been posting the last while. :D

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=32998&start=0

I'll start: Dear, Uncle Twitchy... you can be such a perv, :o but you're a sweetheart all the same. Please accept my praise and well-wishing on this special day. Bless you, UT!

Ok... who's next? :D

Uncle Twitchy never touched me in a special way, and for that I thank him.

Ages ago. I think it was back in the '70s. We drove cross country from California one summer. It was awesome.

I want to do this so bad. Furthest I got was from Jersey to Atlanta, then from Atlanta to Austin.

If I could take maybe three weeks off and had cash enough to live in hotels that whole time, I'd do it. It would have to be in the summer, what with the kid and school and all, but yeah. So great.

Europeans often don't understand how HUGE and diverse America is. They see New York City and Los Angeles on TV and in movies, and have a vague sense of the redbeck stereotype, and that's all they know.

And now that I've unfunned Twitchy's thread ...

One way to save money is to alternate camping and staying in hotels. My senior year of high school my girlfriend, her mother, and I drove from Michigan to California (going through Illinois, Nebraska, Utah, etc) and drove back by way of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, and Ohio.

We camped or stayed with friends the entire way. Took a whole week. Slept under the stars in all sorts of great places. Slept under the one tree they have in Kansas (it's a dogwood, which is why that's the Kansas state tree -- there's a state park around it). Fantastic.

The worst place we camped was in Ogalala, Nebraska. Got rained out in the middle of the night and had to sleep in the car. Ogalala consists, apparently, of a campground, a gas station, and a bar, and was mentioned by name in On The Road.
