I may have to check this out http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/11/movies/11chopr.html

Can anyone recommend some good Bollywood films?

I know nothing about Bollywood films.

I love this thread title, though!

It's been suggested to me to try "Bride and Predjudice" a Bollywood meets Hollywood production or so I'm led to believe. I'm not recommending it just saying it's there....

I like the Hindi superhero movies, the ones of dubious copyright where Spider-Man works for the New Delhi Bugle and Kal-El was rocketed to India as an infant.

If I'm not mistaken "B&B" was directed by the same woman who directed "Bend It Like Beckham". But I'm not sure if the latter would qualify as a "Bollywood" production...

No, "Bend It Like Beckham" is definitely not Bollywood, but it's a great movie.

If you like three hour long musicals, which is what the majority of Bollywood movies seem to be, then you like the majority of the output from Bollywood.

Here are two that I liked (and are really the only ones that I've seen.)

American Desi

Monsoon Wedding

My wife loves Bollywood movies, though she hasn't watched them in the years since we got married since she knows my tolerance for them hovers somewhere between "slim" and "none." I showed her that pic though, and her eyes immediately lit up, "Is that Hrithik Roshan??"

So you're saying that they are batting 1000?

I saw Bride and Prejudice. For an American viewer, it's probably a good place to start, because it is intended as almost and introduction the form. It plays on the Jane Austin novel, so you have that familiar feel while you are exploring the Bollywood "fruit factor." Finally, the female lead is that actress who is the giant of Bollywood, one of the most popular people in the world, and she is beatiful. So you are getting to sample the best of the best in that regard.

I used to watch Bollywood movies when I spent time in the Middle East. I don't think you will find there's much reward there beyond sampling the genre.

I think I do like musicals........I like the Trey Parker films, because of the songs. It would be fun to watch Spider Man and the Green Goblin fight....then burst into a song and dance...though they would have to lose the masks,so they could emote.I don't think I'll go the Jane Austin route.....I'll wait for this SuperHero one to come out.
(sorry about the link...they ask for a login....I had accessed it through google)
