It will be set in modern times and Eminem will play Paladin.

No, I'm not joking.

Eminem can act, so that's really not my problem with this, I also have no problem with updating Westerns, or anything really, but if you're going to update a Western, at least have the decency to change the name.

I think that if they're going to update a Western, it should be, y'know, a Western.

When I was a kid and watched reruns of HGWT and Maverick and Gunsmoke and The Rifleman, it wasn't for the complex character development or the moral ambiguity of a decent man working for the highest bidder, or a lovable rogue cheating at poker, or any of that.

It was for the guys on horses wearing cowboy hats.

I imagine for Michael, it's still that way. :)

Did they not learn anything from "Wanted: Dead or Alive"?

I learned what the best, most enjoyable way to kill Gene Simmons is.

S'okay. I got so burned on 'Wild Wild West', that I wouldn't even try to watch any more movie adaptations of Western TV shows.

Really. It could star Pia Zadora and a monkey for all I care. KITT could replace the horse. Set the whole thing on a sinking cruise ship being attacked by a planeful of snakes.

...actually, that is starting to sound like a pretty cool movie... ;)

Unfortunately, the producers apparently believe nobody will go out to see Westerns anymore. This was one of the problems I had with Brokeback Mountain ------ everyone was describing it as a "gay Western" when it was set in the late 20th century when people drove cars. That does NOT make it a Western.

Most people were describing it as a "gay Cowboy movie", which it is, I didn't hear one person call it a Western.

I've got a gay co-worker who made that film some sort of crusade and she kept trying to convince me to go see it.

My response was that I wasn't the slightest bit threatened by the content (after I told her some of the DVDs in my collection, she asked if I was a closet case), but didn't think the story sounded the slightest bit entertaining. These aren't the mythical cowboys of the screen, they're more the real life version which aren't the slightest bit interesting. Movie cowboys have shoot-outs and jump on trains, real cowboys mend fences. I don't want to watch a movie about cowboys mending fences.

It's a drama, in good dramas, not much really happens, at least not much actiony, it's all plot, and emotions and stuff.

It's a very good movie, although it is slow going. (My intial reaction when the infamous "tent scene" came was "Thank God!") I thought I was going to walk out due to boredom a couple of times, but I hung in there, and the story slowly grabbed its hooks into me. I think this was a deserving Best Picture movie and it's a shame it didn't win.
