I don't think so. Watchmen is so much a comic, utilises the medium so densely, so perfectly, that I can't see a movie living up to it. So, while the trailer looks spot on, visually, I think the film's going to be very good but have a 'well, the comics are better...' qualifier that makes it fall short. I like the remakes of Ring, 12 Angry Men, The Grudge, The Sunshine Boys, Rear Window... but as the originals are so much better they seem kind of pointless regardless of their individual quality. Dig?

Dark Knight, though... I'm still reeling from that one. I think it's going to take a while for any movie to beat it.

At this point with all the hype about Watchmen, there's the possibility that it will be good, but not as good as The Dark Knight.

Watchmen could be the most faithful and well-made superhero movie of all time and I would still prefer DK to it, because Batman is my favorite (along with Spidey). I can't be objective. I will definitely see Watchmen in theaters though.

Watchmen has the advantage of being based on a better comic, a better story. If the director and actors are up to it, it could be a better movie. I doubt that we'll see better performances though.

I didn't really like the Dark Knight that much. It was depressing, with gaping plot holes. But I'll still like it more than I like Watchmen. Bring on Iron Man 2

I saw Dark Knight again Sunday. There were parts I liked better, and parts i liked worse. It seemed much longer this time-i went with 3 people who hadn't seen it, and they all said it felt extremely long, and seemed like it was ending 3 times.

It's a solid entertaining movie. But not much fun.

If you want fun, buy the Iron Man DVD this month.

Hopefully it'll have record setting DVD sales and get people off of the "maybe every superhero movie should be as dark and intense as DK" bandwagon.

Since they both made a lot of money, plus Hulk and Hellboy did decent, not to mention Spider-Man and X-Men, you'd think they'd see a lot of different types of movies, different tones, that take the characters seriously, and are well made, can do well.

I think that Watchmen will do very well with fans of the book.
I still have doubts about the general audience. There are some concepts and incidents in the story that they may not buy into. (After having been asked to buy into the whole Masked Adventurer schtick, with all the trimmings, the alternate history, etc) It might be just a bit too long of a stretch for them. Even though these things would be widely acceptable by comic and sci-fi fans.
I doubt the B.O. will even come close to DK.
