http://io9.com/5052869/could-unbreakabl ... ing-streak Quote: Now that M. Night Shyamalan's career is on something resembling the skids following the relative flop of The Happening, it's not the biggest surprise to see that he's considering a return to earlier and safer ground, in the shape of a sequel to his second movie, Unbreakable. But is the world ready for a return of a histrionic and fragile Samuel L. Jackson railing against the world? Hell yes.
Talking to MTV, Shyamalan admitted that he was definitely weighing up the idea:
I tell you I get asked about it all the time, so it’s not [an idea] I ever forget... I genuinely just asked this question the other day — should I make ‘Unbreakable 2’? ...I made the mistake of getting caught up in the hype of the immediate reaction of the movie, which, experience has shown me, is not accurate to any of my movies. And If I had been more confident and said ‘I believe in that movie, I love that movie, and I should just go start writing the second one,” that would’ve been the right move. I’ve still been thinking about it a lot and wonder if it’s too late.
Jackson claims that not only was a sequel planned from the start, but it would only have been the middle of a proposed trilogy that would have seen his character, Elijah Price escape from his mental asylum and have a final showdown with Bruce Willis' David Dunn. So is it time that Shyamalan came back to what audiences want to see, instead of the latest in a series of increasingly-unsuccessful attempts to confound expectations? He's uncertain:
I do love the [comic book movie] genre, I just wanna make sure that I’m able to express who I am. I don’t want to get so lost in the subject that I have to neuter everything that’s me in it, so maybe ‘Unbreakable’ is the comic book thing I should do — I keep coming back to that.
We know that we'd rather see Unbreakable 2 instead of either The Happening's dodgy eco-terror or The Spirit's camp noir, so put us firmly in the "make it happen" category, thanks very much.

Unbreakable is not even close to his second film.

I thought Unbreakable was a good movie, and heard this rumor back then. It'd be nice to see, but will Willis be up to returning to the role?

I'd much rather see Unbreakable 2 than his next "shocking twist" movie.

I used to be your biggest apologist. I even enjoyed Lady in the Water and The Village. But, please....believe the hype about The Happening. You make hour-long Twilight Zone episodes that have been puffed up to feature length. And when you're working with a lead actor that has very limited talent (*cough* MARK WAHLBERG *cough*), the weakness of your dialogue shows through clear as day. Do you have talent? Absolutely. You have sometimes managed to capture tension that rivals Hitchcock. However, these brief flashes of brilliance are incapable of sustaining a career indefinitely, which you are finding out now. This is a creative individual who has bought into his own bullshit. Always a dangerous combination.

Again and again, he needs to get someone to write for him instead of him doing it himself.

I would like Unbreakable 2.
the only movie of his I hated was Lady in the Water.
Village and Happening were somewhat weak, but I kinda enjoyed them anyway.
Sixth Sense is one of my all-time favorites. I know Unbreakable is not for everyone but I liked it.

If they gave Mr. Glass adamantium claws and skeleton, the stakes would be raised.
Also, Willis gets a laser and busty sidekick.

I've read that M.Night is doing a live action version of Avatar:The last Airbender. Unbreakable 2 and 3 would be cool.

Ironically, the only M. Night movie I liked was Signs. it being ironic because that is considered his weakest movie.
A friend told me about Unbreakable got me into it then gave away the big "shock/twist ending. Thus messing up any reason for me to want to see the movie.
I think Night is a great director (and considering I've only liked one movie of his, that's saying something) but needs to get a proper screenwriter for his movies.

I think it would be cool, if only for the fact that a sequel tends to not lend itself to a shocking twist ending. This would force him to broaden his horizons as a storyteller, and actually try a climax and denouement rather than a twist.

Why no sequel to Lady In The Water? Life is so unfair.
