Hanzo had a great idea for a poll ( viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35659&st=0&sk=t&sd=a ). I thought that an expanded poll might be worth doing, though, since several other candidates were mentioned (and there were a lot of votes in the "other" section.). We only get fifteen options in the poll, so I'm going to stick to what I think are the most popular ones. (I see that Paul Atreides and Robocop got no votes in Hanzo's poll, so I'll skip them. Zap Brannigan got a couple, but since he's a parody, I'll skip him, too.) I omitted the "other" category, so hopefully, I didn't miss anyone really obvious.

I was surprised Paul didn't get any votes, as he was the star of one of the biggest sci fi novels of all time, Dune. Wowsers.

BTW, my votes goes to John Carter, despite being a Confederate.

I still say Lazarus Long (one of Heinlein's heroes).

Adam Strange. An earthman is taken to Rann where he becomes the planet's hero against hostile aliens, giant robots, and mad scientists. He falls in love with the beautiful daughter of the scientist who brought him there, but must return to earth in 24 hours where he must figure out the coordinates of the next Zeta Beam.
DC and Warner Bros. are sitting on a gold mine and they are too stupid to know it.

I can't believe that 5 choices are consumed by Star Trek Captains.

So, Neo from Matrix gets a vote on this poll, even though he was unable to achieve one on the earlier poll.
Interesting.

DC and Warner Bros. are sitting on a gold mine and they are too stupid to know it. Disney is putting out a John Carter movie, which is too similar to Adam Strange anyway-- Quote: On Mars, which its natives call Barsoom, Carter encounters both formidable alien creatures resembling the beasts of ancient myth and various humanoids and finds his true calling in life as a warrior-savior of the planet's inhabitants. He wins the hand of Martian princess Dejah Thoris of Helium, but ultimately sacrifices himself to save Barsoom. Awakening again after this second death he finds he has been miraculously transported back to Earth, and his original body. Carter then earns great wealth as a result of a find of a rich vein of gold ore. Unable to return to Mars, he spends his last years in a small cottage on the Hudson River in New York, where he once more dies on March 4, 1886. Again, Carter's apparent demise is not a true death; rather, he is restored to Barsoom, where after more adventures he rises to the position of Warlord of Mars. He afterwards returns to Earth on a number of occasions to relate his adventures to his nephew (Burroughs), revealing that he has mastered the process of astral travel between the two worlds. During his adventures on Mars his earthly body reposes in a special tomb that can only be opened from the inside.

He did not. He had some sort of flying motorcycle dealie. But he had a body in peak physical condition and went around battling monsters in the nude. That will get the gay audience, for sure.

That is a great cover that was actually used for a Penguin version of Princess of Mars. Nice! (And as low as $4.50 from Amazon sellers at AmazWAN, guys. Go buy it now. OR, if you need it now and want a great deal, you can get the first 3 novels in one volume for ten bucks at Barnes and Noble. And if you can stomach reading an entire book on your screen, its public doman and can't be downloaded free. Me? I went ahead and got the Frazetta hardbacks.)

Depends on the artist... he's had a ton of cool depictions over the years.

DC and Warner Bros. are sitting on a gold mine and they are too stupid to know it. Adam Strange would make a better TV series. The lure of the character was that each month he'd have to use his brain to defeat a strange, new menace. He was McGuiver before McGuiver.

I would love to complete my set of Del Rey paperbacks (John Carter) from 1985. I bought 4 of them, but not all. I still have them.
It's hard to find them online, because the series has remained in print.

That bottom one isn't John Carter, but the point is made.

Apples and oranges? It seems like Adam Strange is a knock-off, straight up. He's as different to Carter as Supreme is from Superman.
