Okay who has seen it, and what do you think?
I left LA the morning it started ...I was thinking of staying an extra day just to go see it.

I saw it last night -- here was the mini-review I posted on another board:
Quote: Just got back... packed theater. Only one cell phone ring during the entire movie-- not bad! Audience was generally pretty well behaved.
Oh yeah, there was a movie, too... not *bad*, but definitely no Academy Award winner here. I'd say it's better than any sequel to either franchise (except Aliens), but not as good as the originals. I'd also say it's more of an action movie than a scary movie.
It definitely had some cheese-ball moments, but I expected a few.
My 12 year-old daughter loved it, wants to see it again, can't wait for the DVD.

Dan - if your 12 year old liked it I assume it was pretty tame..?
Lots of CGI (I hate CGI)...or puppet/costume work..?
Worth seeing big screen or just renting on DVD..?
Thanks!

It's definitely *not* a slasher flick - as I mentioned, it's much more of an action/adventure movie with some thrills thrown in. Tame? Hard to say... pretty high on the violence scale, but pretty low on the gross-out scale.
To be honest, I actually didn't pay attention to the effects. Thinking about it, it was actually pretty well done (well, there were a *few* scenes that weren't so hot). I think it was mostly puppet/costume work. If it was CGI, they weren't in your face about it (which is a good thing).
Big screen or DVD? I almost always vote for Big Screen. I've got a decent home theater (53" Widescreen HDTV, 7.1 Surround Sound) and enjoy watching movies at home (when the kids let me!), but I prefer to get out of the house for a few hours. No phones, no distractions.

And then these human people go to this place. And then Aliens are there. Bad stuff happens. And then Predators show up. And they, like, fight the Aliens and junk. And the human people die. Except the one human. And then there's more fighting. And then it, like, ends. It was, like, okay. I guess.

This movie pissed my daughter off. She's seen the edited-for-TV versions of "Aliens" and "Predator", and when she found out that "Alien vs Predator" was going to be rated PG-13, she begged me to bend the rules and let her see it. So, I checked it out first, and other than the occasional swear word, it really wasn't any worse than you basic monster movie mash up.
But, man, she just hates cliffhanger endings. She's a very done-in-one kinda gal (for movies, that is. She loves her some "Heroes" and "Lost"), and that last scene aboard the Predator's ship just sent her over the edge. "What?? You mean I have to wait for them to make another one? Why can't they just tell the whole story now??"
Gotta love her.

Quote: Sigourney Weaver: 'Alien vs. Predator' "Really Depressed Me"
Alien vs. Predator gets no love from Ripley.
The 2004 crossover movie is a particular sore point in Alien franchise history for Sigourney Weaver, who revealed that she felt depressed when she heard that AVP was going to be made and that it killed any chance of Ridley Scott making a planned sequel.
Speaking at London Film and Comic-Con on Monday, the Radio Times reported that Weaver said: "I heard that Fox was gonna do Alien vs Predator, which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies."
She added: “I’ve nothing against building a movie on a video game, but at the time it was, as Jim Cameron said, I think publicly, ‘Why would you want to do that'? It’s like making Alien meets the Wolfman.”
AVP was made by British director Paul W.S. Anderson, and although it made a decent return at the box office, it was generally disliked by fans and critics alike. A further sequel, Alien vs Predator: Requiem, was released in 2007.
Weaver also said that AVP put an end to any hopes of Scott making a further Alien sequel, with the director dropping out altogether. Scott would go on to direct the Alien prequel Prometheus in 2012. “I think it caused more problems than it was worth,” Weaver said.
Regarding the upcoming sequel directed by Neill Blomkamp, Weaver was more enthusiastic, especially given the South African director's love for the early chapters in the franchise. “I’m so excited about Neill — because Neill is like you guys! He broke the tapes of these movies when he was a kid, he watched them so much,” she told the London fanboy event, adding: “I love the fact that’s Neill’s fulfilling his childhood dream of what he hopes will be the popcorn movie, the Alien popcorn movie that he wanted as a kid to see.”
Weaver also briefly hinted at what to expect from the fifth Alien movie, namely that Ripley will finally catch a break and get a sort of happy ending. “Well — it’s certainly something we’ve discussed," she said. "I agree, she’s had kind of a crap life. Many interruptions." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/s ... sed-809786

Ripley's not Ripley anymore, right? She's a clone that is part Alien herself, right?
Not sure that I want to see Winona Ryder return. I think she would steal the spotlight.
That joke never gets old.
