There was no tour in '77-if I remember this was a special show since they hadn't played in a while and it was to get footage for "The Kids Are Alright". It was a sloppy show but a Who show is supposed to be that way! Apparantley Keith in particular was very nervous. They did another show in May 1978 for the movie as well. They were very upset with this show at the time but I can't wait to see this.

I believe this was the set from 12-15-77:

I Can't Explain
Substitute
Baba O' Riley
My Wife
Behind Blue Eyes
Dreaming From The Waist
Pinball Wizard
I'm Free
Tommy's Holiday Camp
Summertime Blues
Shakin' All Over
My Generation
Join Together
Who Are You
Won't Get Fooled Again

The 1978 shows was filmed at Shepperton studio. Keith's playing there is very sloppy and his time is way off as is heard on the soundtrack and film - nowhere as nimble and driving as his playing was prior. Still, there's a certain energy there and these two shows are his last. I'm looking forward to that '69 Coliseum show. The few tracks I've heard from that show are amazing. Keith at his absolute best.

According to The Who Concert File, the Kilburn set list above is correct.

It lists the following as the Coliseum set list:

Heaven And Hell
I Can't Explain
Fortune Teller
Tattoo
Young Man Blues
A Quick One (While He's Away)
Substitute
Happy Jack
I'm A Boy

Tommy:
Overture
It's A Boy
1921
Amazing Journey
Sparks
Eyesight To The Blind
Christmas
Acid Queen
Pinball Wizard
Do You Think It's Alright
Fiddle About
Tommy Can You Hear Me?
There's A Doctor
Go To The Mirror
Smash The Mirror
Miracle Cure
Sally Simpson
I'm Free
Tommy's Holiday Camp
We're Not Gonna Take It
See Me, Feel Me

Summertime Blues
Shakin' All Over
My Generation
See Me, Feel Me
improvisations
Magic Bus

Actually, that's the set list from Croydon, but the book says it's the same. I wonder if we'll get the whole show.

I'm really looking forward to this release!

And then the remastered edition, the deluxe edition, the limited special edition, the three-month anniversary edition, the bonus track edition...(a bone for Renny!).

Alan

The press release has been updated to include the setlists. Note: they did
not play Going Mobile at Kilburn. Also, not sure about what they are saying
about the Coliseum show. The Coliseum tracklist is missing two thirds of
Tommy, then the near complete Tommy set is listed as bonus tracks? I'm
wondering going by this and the other press release if the missing Tommy
songs not listed in the previous listing will be audio only?:

from which show did the KAA footage eventually come from?

Between this and the Maximum R&B DVD, it will be a very cool time for the 'ho fans!

If I remember Jeff Stein's commentary from the "Kids Are Alright" DVD correctly, the only footage from the Kilburn gig that he used can be seen during the closing credits--as the studio version of "Long Live Rock" plays, the band is seen backstage after a gig, walking up a flight of stairs to their dressing room. I may be wrong, however--I'm going by memory here. Also, if I remember correctly, on the soundtrack album, the live version of "My Wife" is from the Kilburn show. There's an often-bootlegged live version of "Tommy's Holiday Camp" which has been attributed to the Kilburn gig--I guess I'll finally know one way or the other very soon.

From another forum the first review, sounds like what I was told a few years ago.

"The Who must have had pretty high standards to think this was not up to par to release before this: it is better in just about every way than I've ever heard it made out to be: Keith looks about fifteen pounds lighter than at Shepperton and plays with much more energy and power, and with a sparkle in his eyes and laugh on his lips was also plainly having a ball. He threatens to leave unless they let him sing a song, so they banter back and forth until they find the right key to do 'Uncle Ernie' with much laughing and side comments. Pete makes at least one comment about wanting to sack Jeff Stein but is playing with ferocity and aplomb. Another gift simply to watch in wonder. Also lots of jumps and improvisation, even during 'I Can't Explain.' Roger is at the height of his power, sounding and looking great. No shortage of shots of The Ox playing and singing, he really comes for both in during MG. The only Kilburn number not shown tonite that is on the DVD was 'Dreaming from the Waist.'

The song line up is very similar to the '75-76 shows and they are if anything tighter and more aggressive. No lasers during 'Baba O'Riley,' they do come out at the end and it appears that some of the front shots of Roger silhouetted by them used in TKAA were lifted from this. The last four songs or so is going along just like the above gigs, MG into Join Together when just when they would have gone into 'Roadrunner' they start right into the early version of 'Who Are You?' Very different, more jamming and improvisation. Then off to a ferocious 'Won't Get Fooled Again' - both it and BOR easily equal or better than their Shepperton counterparts - complete with Pete's full stage run, leap, and slide during the penultimate scream.

Among the credits: "Conservation and Restoration of the Who Group films provided by Meher Baba Film Archive International, Norwich, England." Music remixed by Paul Clay - Additional Mixing Marc Desisko - Audio Consultant - John Astley - Sound Design by Danetracks.

This may not be the holy grail of unreleased live Who visuals, but it will certainly revise the received opinion of Kilburn '77 in many eyes. Shot on 35mm film with six cameras and very well directed, this will be a keeper."

For a $100 pledge to MPT you can get the full 2 disc set supposedly in 6-8 weeks, about 2 months before the release date.
