Bannings: If you're not nice
The one area in which I stand a chance of beating Jimbo's CD collection is [lilred]Lulu[/lilred] compilations ~ I must have 25 of them by now, and here are some more!

This comp came out recently in the UK, on the EMI Gold label. The tracks are newly remastered and the sound quality is superior to both the recent Wounded Bird two-fer and the UK Mickie Most collection from a couple of years back. Good selection of recordings from 1967/68, but the glaring omission (for my tastes, anyway) is "Best Of Both Worlds":

2008 digitally remastered collection from the Scottish vocalist who became one of the '60s biggest female artists. 22 tracks including 'To Sir With Love', 'The Boat That I Row', 'Love Loves To Love Love' and many more. EMI Gold.

1. Boat That I Row
2. I'm A Tiger
3. Boom Bang A Bang
4. Me The Peaceful Heart
5. Let's Pretend
6. Boy
7. Love Loves To Love Love
8. To Sir With Love
9. You And I
10. Day Tripper
11. Show Me

14. Are You Ready For Love
15. Cry Like A Baby

17. Rattler
18. To Love Somebody
19. Dreary Days And Nights
20. Mighty Quinn
21. Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me
22. Boom Bang A Bang

Here's another compilation which came out recently, pressed up by EMI's Fame subsidiary just for continental Europe. You can see some of the track selection on the cover image ~ there's nothing rare or unusual included (although it is a nice cross-label best-of), and the tracks actually sound like EMI's first remastering of Lulu's material circa 1989 so I don't think they did any new work for this collection, but I had to get it for the cover photo which I remember from some old vinyl EP. This one is for Lulu completists or casual fans only:

Something that stood out in the customer reviews for the above compilations is how many people were recommending the following older comp, a USA collection put together by the Taragon label in 2003. I remember this CD being mentioned here at ICE too in a recent Lulu thread (by Anthony, I think?). This disc is not mastered by Ron Furmanek, but it was done in the same style as the work he did for EMI in the 1990s ~ all the tracks were remixed into stereo from the original multitracks (except for the B-side "Dreary Days And Nights" for which no multitracks exist, apparently), and the results are absolutely outstanding. I mean, a night-and-day difference from any other Lulu releases I've heard ~ the tracks sound that good. If you're willing to trade off getting the "historically correct" mixes in exchange for amazingly upgraded sound quality, this compilation is definitely the way to go. Basically what you're getting here is all of Lulu's EMI recordings from her Love Loves To Love Lulu era, all in stereo except for one track ~ you get all the album tracks, all the single sides recorded around the same time, plus the previously unreleased song "This Bistro" which has since appeared on other comps.

I'll go so far as to say that even if you already have these tracks on other collections, get this CD too. The sound will make you very happy. :ohyes:

You mean to say Lulu recorded something besides "To Sir With Love"? Really?

All my Lulu needs (though I'm very much aware of her long career) are taken care of with To Sir With Love: The Complete Mickie Most Recordings. 39 tracks, and often priced for less than a recent Wounded Bird twofer covering the same period.

I do wish someone would put out a complete Decca recordings comp to go with the Complete Mickie Most and (complete?) Atco Sessions...
