A very underrated writer/artist! Dave Stevens was an assistant if his and he is an influence on Steve Rude. I have a couple of his Tarzan GNs from Dark Horse. Very elegant work.

I didn't see much of his work until after he passed away, way too young. Very talented, and although I prefer the Kubert Tarzan to all others, I'm pretty fond of the Manning version, too.

Russ Manning and Russ Heath. I like the Russes.

I picked up that Heath Legend/Gladiator book that he did with Chaykin as the scripter... the guy at the counter said, "You a Chaykin fan?", I says, "No, I'm a Russ Heath fan." He says, "Who's Russ Heath?"

I hate young people sometimes.

Russ Manning's version of the Star Wars universe in the early "Star Wars" newspaper strip is still my favorite version of that world. It's a rather off-beat and retro look compared to most illustrators' versions, but I find it charming.
