This topic is inspired by (& by that I mean, "totally
ripped off from" ) a thread I saw on the JBF about
revamping certain superheroes. Someone mentioned
how would you combine the 2 universes into one?
JB said he'd just Earth 1/Earth 2 'em, which is probably
the easiest way to go. I mean, how many heroes can
you have on 1 world before it seems like EVERYONE
has super powers?

Still, the notion of a combined world with a shared history
is intiguing. I don't mean like that ALMAGAM line they
did a few years back, where they actually combined
characters themselves (Dr. StrangeFate, Bruce Wayne,
Agent of SHIELD, etc.) but just having little tidbits to show
the connections between the different continuities. How would
you do it?

I can think of a few just off of the top of my head. Galactus
destroyed Krypton (which was actually the plot in the
Superman/Fantastic Four tabloid-sized book that came out awhile
back). The FF's spaccraft was built while Reed was working at
Ferris Aircraft. Dock Ock worked for S.T.A.R. Labs. Niles Caulder
& Charles Xavier were in the army together & used to talk
about the need to train mutants & others who gain fantastic
powers in order to help them assimilate into society. And they
were both paralyzed in the same battle, afterwards they went
their own seperate ways to achieve thier similar goals.
Captain America led the Justice Society Of America (which
included Namor & The Human Torch) in WW II, he was frozen
near the end & awoken in our time when Aquaman (Namor's
descendant) discovered him in ice & he joined the JLA.
While young Bruce Wayne was travelling around the world,
studying various martial arts, he discovered the then-hidden
nation of Wakanda in Africa. And in exchange for keep it
a secret, the King agreed to allow Bruce to train alongside young
Prince T-Challa, learning the ways of the Panther Cult. Stuff
like that.

I don't think I'd want it to actually happen, but it's fun to imagine
the possibilities.

I was thinking about that, y'know? I've been working on a plot, too. Picture this cover:



Instead of an dimension-spanning tale, it's a time-spanning one.

Replace the bottom figures with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain Atom (Charlton version - 'cause the Charlton heroes are included), Thor and Iron Man.

Replace the figures in the cloud with Captain America, Original Human Torch, Dr. Fate, original Green Lantern, Bucky and The Original Shield ('cause Archie heroes are included, too).

The main villians are Baron Zemo and Vandal Savage. In the end, Bucky gets killed by Zemo, who flees into the modern day. Cap comes to the future to track him down, but joins the Justice League in the process.

This is a interesting premise....we could have a lot of fun with this.

Hmmm...what heroes from Marvel would you put in Gotham City?

At the outbreak of WW2, most of the JSA defend the home front, but Hourman Rex Tyler joins the Invaders challenging Hitler in Europe, and comes in contact with various characters; the Losers, the Haunted Tank, and Easy Company. Nick Fury is an early casualty in the war, and Sgt. Rock dies as the last combat casualty of the European Campaign. Rick Flag, leader of Task Force X, and Dum Dum Dugan, leader of the Howlers, go on to form a covert organization known as Checkmate. After the war, Captain American disappears, and most of the JSA retires.

Later, in order to test their new jet fighters, Ferris Aircraft hires Ben Grimm, who - along with his co-pilot Larry Trainor - swipes an experimental jet to fly Reed Richards, his girlfriend, and her brother into space to test radiation levels. Exposed to that radiation, they become the Fantastic Four: Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, the Human Torch, and The Invisible Woman. Trainor becomes the Negative Man, and joins the Doom Patrol. Grimm and Trainor are immediately fired by Ferris, and replaced by Hal Jordan, who later goes on to become Earth's Green Lantern. Carol Ferris, enraged by the actions of her pilots, knowingly accepts the power stone to become Star Sapphire.

4 of Reed Richard's college dorm mates – Hank Pym, Bruce Banner, Ray Palmer and Otto Octavius - use gamma radiation and a white dwarf star fragment to develop a radiation shield that protects the Earth's population from the radiation of fission by-products. This shield prevents the mysterious X-gene from developing in humans; there will be no mutants. During the process, there is a freak accident; Pym is killed, and Octavius loses his mind when he is psychically bonded with the mechanical arms used to manipulate the fragment. Palmer takes the fragment to protect it, and discovers it can be used to adjust his size to microscopic levels. Dr. Octopus and the Atom go on to become bitter enemies, but Bruce Banner is sickened by the accident, and leaves the field; there will be no Incredible Hulk.

In Norway, Dr. Donald Blake still finds an enchanted walking stick, and becomes Thor; in Central City, both Barry Allen and his nephew are doused with chemicals in a lightning strike, becoming the Flash and Kid Flash respectively. The Waynes are still gunned down, and Bruce Wayne still becomes Batman. He still adopts a traumatized Dick Grayson after his parents’ death, who flies again as Robin.

Upon returning from an unjust war, Tony Stark is hired by businessman Lex Luthor. A previously undetected heart condition is cured by Luthor's technology. Grateful for Luthor’s aid, bitter about events in the war, and distrustful of non-Americans, Stark agrees to support Luthor's campaign to rid Metropolis of Superman, who had come to Earth as a baby while his native planet was destroyed by the Planet Eater, Galactus (swipe!). In order to face the alien, Stark creates a suit of armour, and Iron Man becomes Superman's most powerful enemy.

Namor's son, Arthur Curry, discovers and frees Captain America. This encourages his father to again take an interest in the affairs of surface dwellers. Namor joins the Justice League of America, led by Captain America, with the Flash, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Canary, and the Wasp. Curry sometimes travels with the Teen Titans as Aqualad.

And, pre-warned of the existence of threats like Galactus, Green Lantern, Hawkman and Hawkwoman, Wonder Woman and the Martian Manhunter join Superman in a group intended to serve as Earth's Defenders from alien invasion.

Quick points:
A young Matt Murdock is hit and killed by a truck while trying to save an old man. There will be no Daredevil.
Oliver Queen drowns when he drunkenly falls off a boat at sea. There will be no Green Arrow.
A plane crash takes the life of 4 daredevils on their way to a talk show; there will be no one to Challenge the Unknown.
Zatara the Magician’s twin children, Stephen, and Zatanna, defend the normal plane from threats of magic, and Stephen becomes this realm’s Sorceror Supreme

You're killing more characters than Meltzer!

The only real difficulty I have is that much of what you cut (Mutants, The Hulk, Daredevil) is part of the Marvel flavour. I like your dovetailing histories.

Screw it; just give me Hub City.

How about the young Peter Parker as a Teen Titan?

Would that make him Spider-boy?

How about Killraven fighting J'onn J'onzz?

Why not...right after the accident that gave high schooler Peter Parker his powers his Uncle Ben and Aunt May decide to move to Gotham City...where they go to the circus one night. The Joker and his gang show up where all three of the Flying Graysons are murdered along with some of the crowd including Peter's Aunt and Uncle. Peter dons his costume to get revenge and is stopped from killing the Joker by the Batman. Bruce Wayne takes Parker in as his ward and the creepy duo, Batman and Spider-Boy strike fear into criminals everywhere.

In this combined universe what happens when Galactus goes to consume a world that has a Green Lantern patrolling that sector of space?

Doesn't EVERY sector of space have a Green Lantern patrolling it? They are the Guardians of the UNIVERSE after all.

I always considered in my mind that the UNIVERSE was a expression and that they just guarded the Milky Way Galaxy...made more sense to me that 3600 GL's could maybe patrol a whole galaxy not the whole universe.

Even so...would the Guardians let Galactus be in this combined universe of ours?

I think the whole issue of Galactus being "beyond good and evil...more a force of nature" applies in this combined universe as well. I think the Guardians would have the GL Corps protect inhabited worlds from Galactus.

But would the GL Corps have the power to protect a world from Galactus? I don't think so...but maybe the combined might of the actual Guardians may be enough. Perhaps eons ago they worked out a treaty with Galactus where he only consumed uninhabitble planets.

Although what if Galactus discovered he could cure his hunger forever by consuming Oa and the power of the Central Battery.........

In the combined universe, the Durlans and the Skrulls would go to war against one another, constantly disguising themselves as different species, as well as each other. Interstellar paranoia would be rampant!
