Not counting the"Bonfire" box, I have found it strange that no "hits" CD has
been released for AC/DC. Legacy could do an "Essential" collection, but hasn't.
I would say the catalog still sells in large numbers. Maybe the band is
against it? Any thoughts???

Last I read is that AC/DC doesn't want to release a GH until the band quits being a band.

Yes, Angus Young considers "Greatest Hits" albums for artists that are done. Don't look for one anytime soon...

I can't help but wonder if Walmart is putting the squeeze to these guys to finally release a compilation (to be sold exclusively at Walmart, of course).

And yet they agreed to the release of the Family Jewels DVD, which amounts to a video greatest hits collection.

IMO, add the song "For Those about to Rock" to the album "Back In Black" and you have the greatest hits album of the Brian Johnson era. Every song on that album is a classic. Very few songs afterwards did much for me.

BMG club was calling "who Made Who" a greatest hits at one time, but I wouldn't call it that.

I think it was a soundtrack for Maximum Overdrive.

Who Made Who was indeed the soundtrack to the Stephen King film Maximum Overdrive, and comes as close to a greatest hits album as they ever got, although it only has 9 songs.

What's more puzzling to me is why the Australian and European tracks from their 70's albums weren't put on the U.S. version of the Bonfire box set, in addition to rare b-sides from single releases over the years. Most of that material is quite excellent.

And, Stephen King hand-picked the tracks which was why AC/DC agreed to that release. It also has 3 new songs on it. Of course, the movie sucked ass. It is the only film Stephen King ever directed that made a theater.
The band refuses to have a best-of, as does Metallica and a few other big name artists.

Commercially, they ARE pretty much finished, though; aren't they? When did they last have a hit? 15 years ago?

I know I'll never buy any of their individual albums... but I would buy a comp. And I'm sure there are other people in the same boat....

The soundtrack was just one of many things that didn't really work in that movie. Hard rock is not necessarily the best music to play when you're trying to build suspense.

Well, I was whining in another thread about how the three AC/DC albums I do own consist of pretty much the title track and nine tracks of filler. I'd love to see them do a greatest hits compliation, as I really don't like them enough (based on said three discs) to pick up another half-dozen-or-so discs in order to get the other half-dozen-or-so AC/DC songs I like.

I agree with the last couple posters, there's 6 or so AC-DC songs I sorta like & that's about it.

I totally forgot about 'Who Made Who". "Back In Black" is almost a greatest hits
on its own. I have 4 copies for some reason.

New albums are one thing, but since their back catalog outsells many "new" releases, they're hardly commercially finished... Back In Black alone probably moves somewhere approaching a million copies per year worldwide.

Ditto. Based on what I've heard from people "in the know" about AC/DC, their most consistent albums are Highway to Hell and Back in Black.
