From Pollstar.com:

Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet have announced that they will reunite for the first time in over 25 years as Yaz for Reconnected, a brief US tour in July.
The duo will also tour the U.K. and Europe, but as Yazoo, the name the band goes by overseas.
The run includes stops in Denmark, Germany, Ireland, half a dozen cities in the U.K. and the Sonar festival in Spain.
The U.S. trek kicks off July 7 at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, Calif., and includes stops at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles (July 10-11), the Chicago Theatre in Chicago (July 14) and New York City's Terminal 5 (July 16-17).
Tickets go on sale in Chicago on March 7, in New York City and Los Angeles beginning March 8 and in Oakland on March 9 at Ticketmaster.com.
The tour is preceded by In Your Room, a 4 disc box set which includes remasters and 5.1 mixes of both Yaz classic albums Upstairs At Eric's and You And Me Both, b-sides, remixes and a DVD featuring a new short film containing exclusive new interviews with Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet and the promo videos for "Don't Go," "The Other Side Of Love," "Nobody's Diary," "Situation (1990)" and "Only You (1999)."
A limited edition vinyl 12" with new dance mixes will also be released to promote the set.
The Reconnected tour will see Yaz perform material from You And Me Both for the very first time, as Clarke and Moyet decided to part ways just after the release of the album in 1983.

2008 four disc (three CDs + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) anthology of the '80s Synthpop duo's recorded works on three CDs plus a bonus DVD that features classic Yazoo television performances from the BBC, promotional videos and a new short film containing exclusive new interviews with Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet. The box set features remastered and 5.1 mixes of both of Yazoo's classic albums Upstairs At Eric's (Disc One) and You And Me Both (Disc Two) plus a third disc of B-sides and remixes. In short, this is an excellent set for Synthpop, Vince Clarke/Erasure/Depeche Mode and New Wave enthusiasts! NOTE: For legal reasons, Yazoo had to change their name to Yaz for all U.S. releases. This box contains the original albums under the duo's original name.

When I would DJ friends parties in the 80's, these two albums were never far away from the turntable.

Everclear takes on Yaz's "Bad Connection" on their new covers CD The Vegas Years. It's the best thing on the album.

Yaz will be touring the USA this Summer. It promises to be a very special night in NYC when they play the Beacon. :)

Yazoo play first US shows in 25 years

Jul 11, 2008

Yazoo - known as Yaz in the US - kicked off their first Stateside tour in 25 years in California this week.

The influential electronica duo featuring Vince Clarke of Erasure and singer Alison Moyet played the second of three sold-out shows at Los Angeles' Orpheum Theatre last night (July 10) to an adoring crowd that went wild from the moment they walked on stage.

Two giant digital screens lit up the stage with elaborate colourful displays during the band's hit-filled, 100-minute set.

"I haven't been here since '94 or something stupid like that, so to be here is just a dream," said Moyet.

The packed house remained standing throughout almost the entire set - a rare occurrence at the seated theatre venue.

Moyet's soulful, deep voice provided a distinct contrast to the electronic music Clarke masterminded from behind his laptop and keyboard.

The singer sipped on a snifter of cognac and pulled some of her best '80s dance moves throughout the evening.

The duo saved some of their biggest hits from 1982's 'Upstairs At Eric's' for last, with Moyet forgetting the words to 'Don't Go', which they re-started in the middle.

Returning for the encore, Moyet apologised for her momentary memory lapse, explaining she was thinking too hard and decided to begin again to do the song justice.

"It's so brilliant to be here, you've been just fantastic," Moyet earnestly told the crowd, filled mostly with older fans who sang along to nearly every lyric.

Yazoo concluded the night with crowd-pleasers 'Only You' and 'Situation' before taking an emotional bow hugging one another.

Yazoo played:

'Nobody's Diary'
'Bad Connection'
'Mr. Blue'
'Good Times'
'Tuesday'
'Ode To Boy'
'Goodbye '70s'
'Too Pieces'
'In My Room'
'Anyone'
'Walk Away From Love'
'Instrumental'
'State Farm'
'Sweet Thing'
'Winter Kills'
'Midnight'
'Unmarked'
'Bring Your Love Down (Didn't I)'
'Don't Go'
'Only You'
'Situation'

Yazoo will return to the Orpheum Theatre tonight (July 11) before playing dates in Chicago and New York next week.

What the hell is up with all these UK-only releases? Seems like for the past two or three years, the US side of these companies haven't bothered to release perfectly good albums.

The box set is very pricey for the number of discs included. I'll wait until 'Rama get one for me.

I ordered the box set via Amazon and used a $25 off coupon I had from my Amazon.com VISA card.

The 5.1 mixes are what interest me.

I really hate that the domestic version is credited to Yaz all over the packaging! After all these years, does anyone even know who the other band named Yazoo is/was? Considering that the original British versions of the albums were reissued here, you'd think they'd use the true British name of the band! After special ordering this from my local indie store, I couldn't NOT buy it, but I will be looking to buy an import copy in the future!

Just a few notes.I received this today from Amazon. The remasters of "Upstairs At Erics" and "You And Me Both" on the first two discs are of the British released versions."Upstairs At Eric's" does not contain the track "Situation" on the CD or 5.1 mixes on the DVD.I mention this because I have had the domestic pressing for years that contained the 12" US mix of "Situation" in place of the track "Tuesday". The box does contain a third disc with that 12" US mix as well as a "Original US Dub" mix. NO 5.1 mix of the version that most American fans are familiar with.I was disappointed. Also of note, beside the 5.1 mixes of both original British releases, there are 2 promo videos for "Situation" as well as 4 other songs all mixed in 5.1 and 9 BBC clips.I have not watched them yet, so I don't know if they are 5.1 as well. From what I have listened to so far, the remastering was well done, much punchier and clear when compared to my old domestic version. The NTSC DVD gives you a choice between DTS or Dolby Digital. The box and all CD's are under the Yaz moniker but the very nice booklet is labelled with the Yazoo name.It is definitely a domestic release because the box says "Manufactured by Rhino Entertainment Company USA". NUFF SAID!
