End of the road for The Primary 5? Paul Quinn tends to split up the band and "leave the music business forever" after every album, so we should probably take this announcement with a grain of salt ...

Term over for The Primary 5

Hey Ya'll
You'll probably read this and think " Oh not again!. Paul being his flakey self !" That really isn't the case.it's been coming for quite a while and the years end seems like a good time to announce once and finally that The Primary 5 will play their last shows in Madrid, Zaragoza and Valencia in January next year...well about 6 weeks away!! it's not a bad way to finish i'd say, a bit of sunshine ,great food and company and playin some songs!! I'll have some of that thanks! I've had a great time creating and being part of The Primary 5, a "project" that started with 2 demos and turned out 3 albums in 6 or so years, thats not bad going eh!! I would never have dreamt of writing and releasing 3 albums when i was sitting behind The Soup Dragons or Teenage Fanclub playing drums. Playing drums is something i miss terribly and have done for a number of years, it really is the one thing musically that i feel i'm fairly good at. I can feel those blisters already! seriously though, this past year has been pretty tough in the sense that i lost my 2 biggest allies and brothers in rock: Ryan (Currie) & Stuart (Kidd), 2 brilliantly talented musicians and friends who i'll forever be indebted to, especially Ryan, who gave me the encouragement to write and sing and was ever the protector when it came to me writing and the way i wrote. Ryan really was 50% of The Primary 5 so it became a diluted affair to me when Stuart, then Ryan decided to leave. The decision to put the project to bed should have been taken then. "Well, why didn't you"? you'll be asking yourself. Well, I had already written the songs for High Five and was eager and impatient(my worst trait) to get them recorded and had my head stuck so far up my own arse that i couldn't see that it was definitely the right decision to wait until Ryan was available and bring Stuart into the inner sanctom of The Primary 5, which was myself and Ryan. I didn't and lost them both which resulted in a very difficult recording experience for me personally ,salvaged only by the brilliance of Jim McCulloch. I should have called High Five "The Poisoned Chalice" for reasons best kept to myself, it's the album i should never have made but at the same time songs that i'm really proud of.
So it's time to move on, try to learn to play piano, learn how to record at home and write songs as a pastime and leave the "music business" to the kids aiming for the stars.
I'd like to thank everyone who bought our records, came to see us or simply just liked us. I'd also like to thank all the guys who over the years played with The Primary 5 but The Primary 5 for me will always be Ryan, Stuart and Mikey.
Hope to catch some of you guys in Spain, David & Lana, it's gonna be a blast.
Cheers for now!!
Paul x
