Is it worth upgrading from the original CD release to the Jensen remaster?
It's subjective of course.
A few years back, many on ICE complained that the Ted Jensen remasters displayed very little difference from the original CDs. However, those original Eagles CDs were mastered by Barry Diament. I'm not entirely sure offhand about
On The Border and
One Of These Nights, but the other Eagles CDs (including the two Greatest Hits volumes) had been confirmed mastered by Barry. The original target CDs of
On The Border and
One Of These Nights however, sound quite good. I had the remasters and being a fan of Diament's work, I went back and obtained all of the original CDs for comparisons. There had also been a revision (RE-1) on the Eagles discs... I actually have three versions of
Desperado. I tend to favor the original Diament CDs and the target discs over the Jensen remasters.
On the best sound on CD for GH and Hotel California, seek out the OOP DCC gold discs for these two titles.
As for the cost of
Eagles Live, I imagine the original cost of the 2CD fatboy case was over $20. But over the last year or so, I routinely see this title cheap in Wal-Mart. Virgin Megastores recently had it on sale for about six weeks at $10. Used copies of the original 2CD set can be found in used stores like FYE.
