Patty Smyth, Scandal To Reunite, Record Patty Smyth July 09, 2008 , 3:50 PM ET
Evan Lucy, N.Y. For the first time since 1984, '80s darlings Patty Smyth and Scandal have plans to release new music.
The band's original members -- Smyth, guitarist Keith Mack and keyboardist/guitarist Benjy King -- have joined up with new bassist Tom Welsch and drummer Eran Asias for the reunion, which will put the group back on the road and into the studio, though specific touring and recording plans have not been announced.
"We're kicking ass and blowing minds out there," says Smyth. "I've never had more fun."
The band's debut self-titled EP produced the hit "Goodbye to You," and 1984's "The Warrior," buoyed by the success of the title track, eventually sold more than a million copies. Following the tour in support of "The Warrior," the group disbanded.
Smyth continued on as a solo artist, and her material received just as much praise as the band's work. "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough," her 1993 duet with the Eagles' Don Henley, spent six weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Scandal reunited in 2004 for a performance on VH1's "Bands Reunited" series, and the group hit the road in 2006 with Rick Springfield as part of the network's "We Are the '80s" tour.
Scandal has enjoyed increased popularity recently due to the use of "The Warrior" in an episode of "Family Guy" as well as in the video games "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" and "Guitar Hero Encore: Rock's the '80s."
