Should Jackson Browne record a studio album of "Running on Empty" or should he just leave it as the live artifact that it is? I've always been curious to hear a full studio production.

I've often wondered what a studio version would sound like 30+ years on from the original. I'm guessing it would more or less sound the same. Maybe he could tackle a different arrangement of it instead?...

Sure, then he could just bundle it with a greatest hits collection and sell it as a Wal-mart exclusive...

no reason to, it's a classic as it stands.

I hate when artists "revisit" their past like that. Leave it alone and create something new instead, I say.

Only one I know who really pulled that sort of thing off was Duke Ellington, & he was able to do it repeatably, with most of the re-recordings being as essential as the originals.

I don't think there's much to add to the original. It has stood the test of time. Which means if it comes on the radio, I don't change the station :)

Wasn't the whole concept of the album that the songs were about life on the road and it was recorded while on the road? Rather clever, I always thought. Doing a studio version would take it one step away from this idea. I say leave well enough alone.

on the other side, I'd like to see a full mid 70's live album with band!

The first time I saw JB was on this tour: Just him and David Lindley at Township Auditorium in Columbia, S.C. And what a show it was. I still wear the t-shirt every now and then. I love the title track and think a studio version of that song would be interesting to include on a future compilation or box, the way Heart did with their cover version of "You're the Voice." But I see no need for a studio version of the entire LP. It's great as is (especially now that we have the 2005 reissue).

No way a studio version would be as good. Besides, it's an album about being on the road.

Absolutely NOT. It's a great album just the way it is.

I would rather welcome a Jackson Browne boxset with many unreleased tracks. :ohyes:
