my first time seeing a beatle, albeit ringo, turned out to be a most pleasant one.

front row balcony seats at the beautiful avalon theater at the fallsview casino in niagara falls, ontario.

i gotta say, this band was tight, real tight. and this was the opening night of the tour. i can only imagine it will get better and better as thei get used to each other.

billy squire - guitar (bass on one song)
colin hay - guitar
gary wright - keyboards
hamish stuart - bass and guitar
greg bissontte - drums
and
edgar winter - who plays just about everything and almost steals the show!
and, of course
ringo - drums

gary wright seemed a little out of place among these rockers, but loosened up somewhat as the night went on.

ringo, other than being almost like a comic book caricature on the stage, could have chosen some different tunes, but i'm sure that he played what he wanted. but i must say that when the band played the obscure ringo numbers they did not get the response as they did for the rest of the show. personally, i would love to have heard "back off boogaloo (whick i think they really could rocked on) and "the no no song", which fit the mood that ringo was trying convey all night.

jimbo told me how neat these all-star band show were, and i agree 100%. if they come near you, be sure to go see them, it's very well worth it.

a side note, the first casino show i ever saw that went longer than 90 minutes, very rare to see this, ringo must have some pull. :)

Thanks for the review Renny! We'll be seeing this show on Tuesday night at Radio City. Edgar Winter was on the previous tour, he is an amazingly talented musician. Gary Wright is the rookie this time out, too bad he only gets two featured numbers. Always a fun show though, and they usually start right on time!

Nice! Thanks for the review, Renny. The show here is not until July 26th. Can't wait! I agree with Jimbo that seeing the Ringo All Starrs is a must. Very happy that he added "Oh My My" (finally), and "Liverpool 8", "Choose Love", "Never Without You" and "Memphis in my Mind" add a nice dimension to the setlist! Also very pumped for "Frankenstein" and "Dream Weaver"!

It's overhwelming to see the display of affection from the audience for Ringo. Truly beloved.

For total lack of pretentiousness and giving you exactly what you expected to hear, the Ringo Starr show that I saw here in Eugene back in the '90s was one of the best shows I've ever seen. The lineup for that one was Ringo, Simon Kirke, Peter Frampton, Gary Brooker and Jack Bruce.

While reading this, I got a funny mental image of Edgar Winter as one of those one-man-bands: you know, playing keys with one hand, a horn with the other, and the drums with his feet!

1. Does anyone know if I will be allowed to bring a digital camera into the Ringo concert at the Capital One Bank Theater at Westbury (f/k/a North Fork Theater, f/k/a Westbury Music Fair)??

2. Are Ringo's shows usually very loud? Will my daughter need earplugs? (I'll bring them anyway to be on the safe side.)

Thanks.

We've been to a number of shows at Westbury, I seem to recall that JohnG brought a camera in for one show, but some artists may object. They don't do searches though, you'll probably be OK.

I'd bring the earplugs. The show at Radio City was loud enough that I was glad I brought ear protection.

BTW, we got Levon Helm as a surprise guest on the last number. Ringo reminded us that he was part of the first All-Starr tour.

My daughter, I, and friends attended the Ringo concert at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, last night...June 27. The show was way beyond outstanding!!! I have seen Ringo twice before over the past but this show was great. Every one of the All-Starrs performed exceptionally in their own right. Edgar Winter and Billy Squire were particularly good. I have been a Beatles fan since I first saw them on the Ed Sullivan Show...way back in the day. I have seen McCartney and Harrison also in concert, numerous times. I never took the opportunity to see Lennon in concert and I certainly regret that I wasn't able to see him live.

My advice...if you like the Beatles..."Don't Pass Him By"...see this show!!!

Thanks, Jimbo. I might leave the camera home anyway and just enjoy the show. I'll have my cell phone camera for a souvenir shot or two. And I already have the earplugs out so I don't forget to bring them!

If your able to take a pic with your digital camera foresaking the "flash" then the artist won't mind. Those cell phone photos are always awful yet everyone is always pointing them toward the stage.

Sometimes the artists stay after the show at Westbury and sign souvenirs or pose for a pic.

I have a few that way including Rick Wakeman and Chris Isaak.

Enjoyed the concert very much, especially Edgar Winter, who is an outstanding musician (as is Hamish Stuart). I took some bad cellphone photos and some bad photos with my daughter's small digital camera. The short videos came out better, though....

Actually, they did announce no photography. Many took non-flash pix anyway. But at one point Ringo said to a woman near the front something like "I don't mind people taking a few pictures, but you're filming the whole show! You're holding that button down the whole time! That's rude!" (not an exact quote). he kept pointing at her, and security then came and escorted her out.

Ringo was funny, but at times his humor was a little nasty - like "This one is for the ladies out there -- both of you." Or to Billy Squier, who he was chiding to get going with one of his songs, and Billy said, do you want to do it? Ringo said, I could do it -- IF I liked it."

I'm seeing Ringo and the band Thursday, July 3. I'm looking forward to it. I've seen each American tour so far and while I've loved them all, I've been disappointed in the All Starrs the last couple of times out. We've gone from Levon Helm, Dr. John, and Joe Walsh to Colin Hay and Billy Squier? But I'll go, even if Ringo ends up touring with the Chipmunks. :-)

By the way, my favorite lineup was the one with Jack Bruce, Peter Frampton, Simon Kirke, and Gary Brooker. That one really rocked!!
