Eddy Grant plots summer tour for 'Reparation'

Veteran reggae singer/songwriter Eddy Grant will mount his first North American tour in more than 20 years this summer behind a new best-of album.

The British-raised, Guyana-born musician -- whose best-known hit in this country was 1984's "Electric Avenue" -- will launch the run Aug. 1 in Toronto. The trek will hit 20 cities, winding down with a West Coast swing at the end of August. Details are below.

Before hitting American soil, Grant returns to the road in the UK later this month for the first time in years, an early summer stretch that will run through late July. Those dates can be found at Grant's MySpace page.

"The Very Best of Eddy Grant - The Road to Reparation," due in stores July 8, collects 11 tracks spanning Grant's career from 1979 to 2005, including his two biggest hits in the US -- the aforementioned "Electric Avenue" and the 1984 title song for the action-comedy movie "Romancing the Stone" -- as well as three UK Top 40 hits: "Gimme Hope Jo'Anna," "Do You Feel My Love" and the UK No. 1 "I Don't Wanna Dance."

Grant's most recent studio album is 2006's "Reparation," which he self-produced.

The singer's musical career began in the mid-'60s, when he founded multicultural pop outfit The Equals. His first solo hit came with 1979's "Walking on Sunshine," which spawned the hit "Living on the Frontline."
