I got the idea from this song:

I can totally imagine it...a Rankin-Bass production, directed by Ralph Bakshi...the adventures of five super-powered guys from the Deep South who moved to fight crime and get people dancin' up in Detroit, using their powers of matter transmutation, flight, time manipulation, weather manipulation, control of the four elements, and super-funkification.

Melvin is immortal.

Yes, it would have fit into Saturday mornings in the early 1970s pretty well. It's mind-boggling how many shows of the time starred bands and singing groups, real or made-for-TV. "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" was originally planned for that format, but wiser heads prevailed.

Brilliant! Maybe they can do a guest shot in the next IMWAN comic.

I used to think the Jackson Five were just a cartoon. Then I found out they were real.

That's where I first heard of them too! I was very young then. My only memory of the show is an episode where they stopped some evil loggers by putting syrup in their chain saws.

They would have fit with the New Adventures of Gilligan cartoon, or Gilligan's Planet.

Of course, Michael Jackson would later become a cartoon in real life.

Yeah, but fab as they were, could they make the ships sail on dry land?

The Rankin-Bass musical cartoons had FAR better dancing than the Filmation ones, like The Archies and The Brady Kids.

ALTHOUGH...the stock clips of Betty and Veronica/Marcia and Jan dancing the Pony and playing the tambourine are pretty hot.

I must have blocked the Osmonds cartoon from my memory. That is truly terrible.

It was on right after the Jackson Five cartoon.

As you would expect.
