http://www.nme.com/news/kasabian/33657 Kasabian halfway there with third album
Jan 15, 2008
Kasabian spoke about their progress on their third album last night (January 14) while hosting their own show on Radio 1.
Frontman Tom Meighan and songwriter Sergio Pizzorno were on air to fill in for DJ Zane Lowe while he is holiday.
Speaking to 'The Mighty Boosh'’s Noel Fielding, who phoned in to speak to the band, they declared they were “just cracking on with it (the album) now”.
“We're sort of in the process,” added Pizzorno. “I don't really know when it’s going to be released, but as soon as we think it's ready it'll be out. It's psychedelic this one, it's going to open your mind.”
Meighan added that the band were about “halfway there” in terms of sessions.
The pair, who co-hosted the show with Annie Mac (pictured), also confirmed that last year’s very limited edition single 'Fast Fuse' will feature on the record.
“I think it's going to go on the album,” explained Pizzorno. “We've had thousands of people saying we want it on the album, we want it on the album, so it's going to go on.”
The show continues tonight (January 15) with Mark Ronson set to fill in for Lowe.
Product Description 2009 release, the third studio album from the English Alt-Rock outfit. For this album, the band recruited American Hip Hop and Electronica producer Dan The Automator, who is best known for his work on the first Gorillaz album. Two years in the making, the album is the sound of a band at the peak of their powers. A 52 minute mash up of sky-scraping melodies, Electro-Punk riffs, Morricone-esque symphonics, Mariachi stomps and Psych-Pop lullabies, it is both a stadium sized declaration of intent and a bar-raising benchmark for Rock music in 2009. 1. http://www.uncut.co.uk/news/uncut/news/11407 KASABIAN GIVE UPDATE ON NEW ALBUM
Kasabian have revealed that they have almost completed their third studio album, despite the obvious distractions.
"We go to the studio, potter around, eat sandwiches and it's hard to get things finished. We're about 80 per cent done now," said bassist, Chris Edwards talking to The Sunday Mirror.
Details of the follow up to Empire have been scarce, but songwriter Sergio Pizzorno confirmed that last year’s very limited edition single 'Fast Fuse' will feature on the record.
"I think it's going to go on the album,” explained Pizzorno, to Uncut’s sister publication, NME. “We've had thousands of people saying we want it on the album, we want it on the album, so it's going to go on."
"We're sort of in the process," added Pizzorno. "I don't really know when it’s going to be released, but as soon as we think it's ready it'll be out. It's psychedelic this one, it's going to open your mind."
The band has also revealed that they will test out the new record on their close friend, Noel Gallagher
He added, "We're going to play it for Noel in a couple of weeks. He speaks his mind."
Kasabian will headline Creamfields and Scotland’s Hydro Connect festivals this summer. See http://www.myspace.com/kasabian for details.

http://www.nme.com/news/kasabian/37575 Kasabian preparing 'hypnotic techno '60s road movie' album
Jun 24, 2008
Kasabian have talked about their forthcoming third studio album, revealing that techno and road movies have been big influences.
The Leicester said they were feeling confident about the studio sessions, claiming the follow-up to 2006's 'Empire' will be their best effort yet.
Guitarist Serge Pizzorno said, "The music we're making is rooted in techno and dance music but it's also influenced by the 60's.
"The new stuff is sounding really hypnotic. The tunes we've done so far remind me of a really good road movie."
Pizzorno confirmed that limited-edition EP release 'Fast Fuse' will make the tracklisting, plus 'Silver Bullet'. "There's a duet on there as well which'll fuckin' blow everyone away," he said.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, singer Tom Meighan confidently added, "This is the best record we've made so far - of course, I'm always gonna say that. We've got to compete with a title like 'Empire' so we're not making it easy for ourselves."

I am of a firm belief that Kasabian is the most badass band on the planet at the moment. Majestic in everything they do, but still 100% tough. Everything they've done blows me away.

http://www.nme.com/news/kasabian/41084 Kasabian preview new album with help from U2
Nov 14, 2008
Kasabian previewed tracks from their album in London tonight (November 14) after being introduced on stage by U2's The Edge.
Taking part in Mencap's series of Little Noise Sessions shows at the Union Chapel, the band played an acoustic set as they headlined the night.
Opening with 'Processed Beats', the band worked in lyrics from The Kinks' 'You Really Got Me' as the audience rose up from the pews to dance along.
"We were shitting ourselves," admitted frontman Tom Meighan of the stripped down set as he introducing first new song 'Fast Fuse', "but you guys make us feel invincible!"
B-side 'Black Whistler' fronted by guitarist Sergio Pizzorno followed, before they performed a "romantic" cover selected especially for the night.
Playing The Velvet Underground's 'Who Loves The Sun' a second new track 'Thick As Thieves' was then previewed.
'Empire' triggered a mass sing-a-long, ahead of a soul 'The Doberman', before Kasabian covered Del Shannon's 'Runaway'.
They then wrapped the show up with The Beatles' 'Why Don't We Do It In The Road' and bluesy version of their own 'LSF'
Earlier the band had been introduced onstage by The Edge who stood in as compare, supporting Mencap's Don't Stick It, Stop It campaign aimed at stopping school bullying of special needs students.
"They support a really crap football team, their music is ok," joked the U2 guitarist. "They don't have echo on their guitars and they haven't written any songs about 60s civil rights leaders."
Kasabian played:
'Processed Beats'/ 'You Really Got Me' 'Shoot The Runner' 'Fast Fuse' 'Black Whistler' 'Who Loves The Sun' 'Thick As Thieves' 'ID' 'Me Plus One' 'Empire' 'The Doberman' 'Runaway' 'Why Don't We Do It In The Road' 'LSF'

http://angryape.com/news/2009/03/06/kas ... tic-asylumKasabian Name New Album 'West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum'
Published Friday, 6th March, 2009 at 11:03 AM
Kasabian have bizarrely named their new album as 'West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum'.
The band have been working on the LP for the last year and it will be released in Summer, possibly in June. Kasabian worked with famed producer Dan 'The Automator' Nakamura.
In January, guitarist Sergio Pizzorno said of the new material: "There's a couple of songs that kind of went New York [Rolling] Stones and there's definitely one song that sounds like Daft Punk and The Clash together, which is quite interesting."
Pizzorno also described the songs as sounding "funky" and having a lot of "groove".
'West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum' should also coincide with the band's headline event as part of the Eden Sessions this July.

http://www.nme.com/news/kasabian/44306 Kasabian reveal Rolling Stones inspiration by 'dressing up' album sleeve
Apr 28, 2009
Kasabian have explained the meaning behind the sleeve for their third album.
As revealed last week, the band have dressed up as Napoleon and a priest, among other costumes for the cover of 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum'.
"Well, it’s the fancy dress in the asylum, we’re sort of getting ready to go to the end of year ball or the work do at the asylum," guitarist Sergio Pizzorno told NME.COM in a video interview below.
"Ideas of grandeur, y’know, when kings go mad, power gets to them and they see themselves as other things…Tom [Meighan, singer]’s Napoleon and I'm a sort of Butcher Priest. Ian [Matthews, drums]’s a sort of mad pagan monsters of sorts and Chris [Edwards, bass] is a little pauper sort of losing his mind eating light bulbs, reading mad literature. It’s great, you can’t take your eyes off it and it’ll fuck people off."
Frontman Tom Meighan added that the sleeve had been inspired by The Rolling Stones album 'Their Satanic Majesties Request'.
"We wanted to do, like you know the Stones dressed up as wizards, and all that kind of shit," he explained. "You see these psychedelic bands dressed up as kings and stuff, so that was the take on it."

http://www.nme.com/news/kasabian/44811 Kasabian launch album with 'Asylum' show
May 21, 2009
Kasabian launched their new album with an intimate secret fan show last night (May 20) in London.
The HMV Forum in Kentish Town was redressed as the 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' in honour of the band's forthcoming new record title, with guests given medical-style wristbands bearing a 'Day Patient' tag.
The Mighty Boosh's Noel Fielding and ex-Oasis drummer Zak Starkey were among the fans watching the Leicester rockers tear through old favourites plus new songs 'Vlad The Impaler', 'Fire', 'Where Did All The Love Go?', 'Underdog', 'Fast Fuse' and 'Thick As Thieves'.
Forthcoming single 'Fire' saw the band joined by a trio of female backing singers, but performing the track proved fraught.
As it began drummer Ian Matthews' gong collided with singer Tom Meighan's head, causing him to miss his cue. Since the show was being recorded for TV, the band had to return to the stage after their encore to play the track again.
As has become tradition, guitarist Serge Pizzorno ad-libbed Candi Staton's club classic 'You Got The Love' as the finale approached.
Kasabian played:
'Vlad The Impaler' 'Shoot The Runner'' 'Cutt Off' 'Fire' 'Processed Beats' 'Where Did All The Love Go?' 'Underdog' 'Empire' 'Fast Fuse' 'Thick As Thieves' 'The Doberman' 'Club Foot' 'You Got The Love'/'LSF'
'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' is released on June 8.

http://www.nme.com/news/kasabian/44970 Kasabian: 'We're not a lad rock band'
May 29, 2009
Kasabian's Tom Meighan and Sergio Pizzorno have told NME.COM that they can't understand why people label the band as 'lad rock'.
In an interview which you can read in full in this week's issue of NME, Pizzorno said that people are wrong to pigeonhole the band, despite their close association with frends and regular touring partners Oasis.
When asked if Kasabian's new album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' is an attempt to shrug off the lad rock tag, Pizzorno replied: "We never were one."
He added: "If you put our records on and press play, there's no pub rock in that, man. It's really British rock'n'roll. It is what it is. It kind of makes me laugh when people say that - you ain't got no idea."
Speaking of the new album, Meighan claimed that it shows the band moving in a more ambitious direction than their previous work.
"I think the album shows how beautiful we are as a band," he explained. "How beautiful we've become. It was an ugly duckling, but now it's grown up. It's kind of flowered, blossomed. I think we've matured in every way."

Saw the video for "Fire" last night on MTV2's "Subterranean". Pretty good, not great. Interesting video-good thing guitars can't really shoot bullets-that would be bad for hecklers.

http://www.nme.com/news/kasabian/45282 Kasabian reveal why they called album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum'
Jun 12, 2009
Kasabian have revealed the meaning behind the title of their third album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum'.
The album was released this Monday (June 8) and, according to the latest midweek figures, is set to top the UK album charts on Sunday (June 14) night.
Speaking to NME.COM, guitarist Sergio Pizzorno explained that although the album shares it's name with the old Yorkshire madhouse – the same institution name-checked in Kaiser Chiefs' song 'Highroyds' – that is the only thing the two have in common.
"The album isn't about the place, I just first heard about it on a TV documentary, and the words just struck me," explained Pizzorno. "I love the way it looked and the feeling it evokes. Apparently, it was one of the first loony bins for the poor, before that it was mainly rich people who got treatment."
The guitarist also spoke about the record's head-turning sleeve, which sees him dressing up as a "butcher priest".
"The album cover comes from thinking about the words really. It's us getting dressed up for a party at the asylum, looking in the mirror at the costumes," he said, adding it had been inspired by a seminal concept album.
"Amon Düül II's 'Made In Germany' is one of my favourite albums and I really love the sleeve of that record," he said. "I wanted to do something in that tradition. I just thought, bands don’t really do covers like that any more. Admittedly, some people might think we look really silly [laughs], but for me I just think it really works."

Went to Best Buy last Friday and they didn't have it.
Fuck Best Buy.
I just ordered it (and the new Marshall Crenshaw, which they didn't have, either) from AmazWAN.
