Smashing Pumpkins ready debut album box set

Jun 23, 2008

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they will release a box set of their 1991 debut album 'Gish' later this year.

In a posting on the band's website, Billy Corgan and co revealed that the box set's release will coincide with a 'Gish' tour sometime in 2008.

The band did not yet disclose the exact release date or what will be contained in the landmark album box set ("What is to be included on here, no one knows for sure," they wrote) but it will help mark the band's 20th anniversary this year.

Excellent (and tantalizing) news. As for possible track speculation...one possible clue can be found at the Pumpkins' Myspace page--the "Gish" outtake "Jesus Is The Sun" has been added, complete with an avatar featuring brand new cover art for "Mashed Potatoes"--the legendary unreleased (but all over the internet) 5-disc, 77-song boxed set of demos, live tracks, and outtakes from 1994.

this is excellent news. Perhaps my favorite SP album - although a close second would be Adore.

A bit more on the "Gish" box set, from the official Pumpkins website:

Quote:
The Smashing Pumpkins are looking for any original photos from 1987-1992 to be a part of their upcoming Gish Boxset.

Were you a fan of The Smashing Pumpkins since the beginning? I mean WAY back, back before anyone can even remember a thing called grunge, digital cameras, or the internet.

If you were in the thick of it back then, and have the photos to prove it, then this message is for you:

The Smashing Pumpkins are looking for any original photos of the band from between 1987-1992. Any photos that include the original negative (to prove it is yours and authentic) if chosen for inclusion will be licensed (paid for). These photos will be included in some form in the upcoming Gish boxset.
You may ask yourself, "Will my photo work?" Photos can be from a festival, a club gig, after-show party, anything that is from the correct time period and includes the band.

To reach someone in regards to submitting your original photos, please send a private message to Pumpkinsmediamilitia on this site and you will be given further instructions from there. To send a private message, you must first register for an account on smashingpumpkins.com.

There is also some tidbits about an upcoming DVD release that I hadn't heard of prior to reading this:
