driving my wife's car the other day, i was listening to "deep tracks" on XM radio (i do not have XM in my car) and a song came on by a band called "the stone coyotes" and it was pretty darn good. and it was from their 8th album!

anyone here know anything about this band?

thanks,

renny

They are a husband-wife-stepson trio with some connection to Elmore Leonard. Rockabilly/folk/blues/Dylan rock and roll influences.

My favorite album of theirs is Church of the Falling Rain, songs that Leonard used in Be Cool and a nice cover of Highway 61 Revisited.

just got my second stone coyotes album. i now have "situation out of control" and "rise from the ashes".

this band is really good, not exaggerating at all, really good.

their CD's are tough to find, but my quest will continue until i get all 9, that's for sure.

just a 3 piece, husband, wife and son, but barbara keith who does all the singing and writes most of the songs has got some hooks and got some balls.

kind of a cross between the pretenders, concrete blonde, and the james gang.

if you see anything by them cheap, give em a shot, i don't think anyone will regret it.

Looks like all of their albums are in print except for a couple of limited live ones:

The Stone Coyotes are terrific live, too. I first saw them about 16 years ago in a little club in Northampton, MA--they are (or were) based in western MA--but have kept up with them only sporadically since. It's a little rawer, and harder to find, but you might want to seek out "This Is How It Starts" under the "Barbara Keith Band" moniker, too. A couple of great BKB songs are "Daddy's in the Jailhouse" and "Hey, You Know What?"
