Let's have some posts about this new movie by M. Night.

I feel like a jilted lover who's had his heart stomped on multiple times. I'm afraid to open up the door to this being good.

But it looks kind of okay. It's about some worldwide phenomenon that makes people kind of befuddled, catatonic, and then suicidal (I think).

What do you think?

It's going up against the Hulk.

Hulk.

Will.

Smash.

The Hulk is one of my most anticipated movies. The Happening better not even touch the Hulk's party.

Some guy over at http://www.aintitcoolnews.com said it was extraordinarily bad. That's about all I've heard.

Spoilers, probably: http://www.collider.com/entertainment/r ... 903/tcid/1

I read somewhere that it's Shyamalan's first "R"-rated movie. Even if it's successful, it won't beat the Hulk's opening numbers.

I read the spoiler filled review at AICN. It sounds bad, for sure. The "secret" is lame. This should continue his string of good films with problems.

Signs; the aliens weakness is water? WTF!! Dumb.
The Village; weak, weak pay-off. Otherwise, sort of fun.
Unbreakable; cheesy, weak ending to an otherwise great movie.

The Sixth Sense; near perfect (although, who didn't figure it out early on?)

Never saw, nor want to see the Women in Water one.

Lady in the Water was an interesting film, IMO. Its description as a "modern fable" was very appropriate.

That review has convinced me this film will be horrible.

Rob is trying to provoke a Marvel catchphrase as the response.

I won't bite.

Bannings: I'm judging you.
I really loved the audience reaction to seeing the trailer for this when we went to see Iron Man for the first time.

When Shyamalan's name came on the screen, the audience let out a collective groan. Then, everyone started laughing at that collective response

While I didn't hear a laugh at my theatre, the first time I saw the trailer, there was an audible groan from the audience as well.

I think this'll do very poorly-- it could be the next Speed Racer.

Depends on the reviews. It's an adult looking movie so the reviews will be crucial. The trailer I think is pretty effective.

I doubt most people know his name. But they know the Sixth Sense and Signs. They liked them

But if the reviews are bad it will flop.

Looked this up:

Trivia:
In late 2006, this script (under the title The Green Effect) was offered to and passed on by every major studio.

In a personally-unprecedented move, Shyamalan took the studio’s notes and incorporated them into a rewrite titled The Happening. The new version was purchased by 20th Century Fox with production starting this month.

year or so ago, the script for "The Happening" (then titled "The Green Effect") came across my desk and, while it inspired a mixed reaction, I really thought it was step up from both "The Village" and "Lady in the Water" and more in-tone with "Signs". A straight-forward disaster epic on a human scale, "The Happening" seemed to be, from the script, exactly what Shyamalan needed to win back an audience and redeem himself. And on the positive side, I thought he couldn't get much worse.

I was wrong.

"The Happening" is a terrible, terrible movie. I mean, it's bad on an epic scale. It's so bad that I can't possibly tell you how bad it is without understating the point or making it sound like I'm picking on the film. But let me stress: this is not pent-up Shyamalan aggression or a desire to see him fail. This is bad in a jaw-dropping "they can't really be serious, can they?" kind of way. The closest comparison I can draw is to Neil LaBute's "Wicker Man" and, like that film, the only consolation I can offer potential theater-goers is that you might want to see it just to be in on the ground floor when the film gets its ass handed back to it.

I can also throw out that I'm not certain if the version I saw was the final version. It certainly felt rough but compared pretty dead-on with what I remembered from the script. The score, certainly, was missing and while that can really work wonders in the final form, I can't imagine it coming close to saving "The Happening".

Sixth Sense: Loved it.

Unbreakable: Couldn't stop staring at my watch. Unbearable.

Signs: Loved it.

The Village: Dopey.

Lady in the Water: Laughable. Shyamalan casts himself as the future savior of all mankind, and a know-it-all critic comes to a horrible end. Very funny. And I couldn't help but guffaw when the title character turned out to be a Narf.

I think you're wrong-- almost everyone I know knows who M. Night Shamalayn is. Ask your friends, I'd be surprised if they didn't know who he was.

The more I see of the trailers, the less interested I am in seeing this. Maybe when it comes to HBO.

I have no interest.

M. Night Shamaylan is silly, did anyone see that SciFi channel special a few year back?

Hilarious.

I do still want to see Lady in the Water.

All I want to know is whether you're copying me when you call M. Night "Shamalama-ding-dong," Jay. I've referred to M. Night by that name here several times before, but I've never heard anyone else call him that.

As far as watching the movie: I'm waiting to see what the reviews look like.

I'm sure referring to M. Night by that rock and rollish name is hardly original. I thought of it a few years ago, but never posted it on the internet. His last name has probably made more than three or four people on the internet come up with that, I'm sure.
