All in all, in most incarnations in the comics, for the better part of 70 years, pretty much a top jerk

That's some youth serum. Even her clothes got younger!

She was Superman's natural foil. Someone else can write their masters thesis about it.

She was always nasty to Clark.
For Superman to fall for that shows a masochist side of himself.
Movie and tv Lois is nicer, generally. But comics Lois? A cruel, cruel woman.

It is funny, that knowing Lois as both Clark and Supes, he didnt just throw he into the sun. That is a psychological profile worth investigating. Why was Clark emasculated, and by did he allow Lois to treat him like shit?
Besides the fact that he was a guy, and she was a girl.

He really should have gone with either Lana or Wonder Woman.

She's the hot girl at school that treats you as a friend, tells you how cool the other guys are, and occassionally abuses your friendship.
But you know better than anyone that she's a great person at heart, and would be there for you when the chips are down.
The fact that she rarely (if ever) tried to set Clark up on dates with her friends shows that she had some hidden feelings for him.

in the Shuster comics, she's so mean sometimes He does play up being a wimp, but still Was the clumbsy bumbling Clark solely limited to Chris Reeve's performance? (and the copy)

The bumbling Clark that was in the comics when Superman was filmed used the act to get things done.
Trip to push someone to safey, slip to send a pie flying into Steve Lombard's face, etc. As he is in All Star Superman.

Lois Lane, to me, always indicated a deep psychological flaw in Superman. Why the heck does he want this chick? What are her redeeming qualities?
I agree with Frank Miller on this one. Why wouldn't Superman be more interested in Wonder Woman? Talk about a match made in Heaven...

She's made of clay. She may not even have a woo-woo.

Kurt Busiek wrote a very interesting story for his Astro City comic that involved (and I'm working from memory here, since this was one of the comics that was lost when my last apartment was destroyed) a feisty Lois Lane type character who was obsessed with exposing her co-worker as a prominant superhero. After years of attempting to do so, said superhero finally lost it and blew up at her at work, burning off his civies and revealing the costume underneath and shouting about how selfish and annoying she's been and about all the extra work she made for him over the years. Then he flies off and is never seen in Astro City again. As a result, this woman is reviled and despised by the citizens of Astro City and every time something bad happens to someone and a superhero isn't around to do something about it, she is blamed. It was one of the more interesting "civilian stories" in the comic.

Usually, he has some smarmy comment about her, so he seemed to feel he ought to look at the nice side of Lois for once.
